Oh, this foodie can almost taste the deep dish pizzas now... :yum: (Oops! Dairy allergy... Hmmm? Better do it after all my events are done... ) What else is worth this Bay Area foodie's time to try for food?
Okay, all you Chicago-ians... what other ice rinks are near this rink? Is there a spare ice surface so I could warm up???

If you've never had Gino's East or Giordano's (pizza), I'd definately recommend starting there. ;)

I've heard that it may be held in the Bensenville ice rink, and if that is the case, there are several rinks near by that can be used for practice ice. :)

Where's the Bensenville rink? I only ever come to the far north suburbs.

I was on the committee that got it to Chicago, and as you can see I've been very good about not spilling the beans! I didn't know that they were posting that information today. But glad I don't have to keep the secret anymore! :halo:
Bensenville is right by O'Hare airport, about 15 minutes away. It has two surfaces (with a bar!!) in one facility, and down the street about a half mile is the practice rink. It's a nice facility. Practically every suburb in Chicago has its own rink, so there are lots of options nearby for other practice ice.
It will be easy for anyone to get to, since in addition to O'Hare, Milwaukee's aiport is about an 1.25 hours north, and Midway is only 45 minutes south.
I'll be happy to answer other questions as they come up. Glad you're all excited!

Strikes me that a great many of my skating friends won't have far to travel! Don't think we'll come and watch - although we did love our trip to Overland Park, Ks. Maybe we'll see if we can get to Peach or Skate SF.... we really do want to compete at one or the other one of these years!

That's good. It means it won't be back to Placid until 2009 or 2010. I should be living there by then, armed and ready to go.

Re: shopping in Chicago: have it mailed back to your home address! Out sales tax here is very high (9%!) and it's often cheaper to have your new purchases mailed home. Plus then you don't need to save room in your luggage.
Any Chicagoans here who want to volunteer, please PM me. Thanks.

All I know is that it's by O'Hare... I've never skated there, as I am from the southwest suburbs.

Taxes here in the Bay Area is anywhere from 8.25 to 8.75% depend on which county line you're in. SF is 8.5%.

I'm eager to go to Dallas, but over the moon at the prospect of going to Chicago! How quickly AN became the ultimate competition for me.

Happy 25th B-Day, Vesper!!!http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/kao/chika/chirol_cake.gif
Yes!!! Happy b-day to you!!! You finally made the big 2-5!!! (Too bad they had to lower the age to 21 just as you are eligible for AN this year...) :frus:
Will we finally see you competing at AN? (I know! I'm one to talk here... I gotta get my A$$ in motion to be eligible for AN too...)

This means that I may have to fly! :frus: But I might just be willing to work on my phobia. I'd love to compete and by 07, I should be ready for a try at the bronze level.

And Hannahclear, even if we were :frus: on the political threads this past election......I'll be glad to introduce you to some of the folks at the 2007 AN! There's nothing like the AN experience -- and each year I get to meet more and more people. Not only folks from the forum, but other terrific people who don't visit the web. Looking forward to meeting you! :D
PS -- Jazzpants. It's not IF, it's YES. You'll be joining us in Dallas, and AN will be old hat to you by the time Chicago rolls around. Right? 8-)

Thanks for the b-day wishes! ANs... I know, just in time right? :frus: Oh well. I'm coming to ANs in Dallas no matter what! Chicago also sounds fun - a bit closer to me but not enough to drive.

Yaaaaay, Chicago!!! :D :D :D
I haven't skated in so long, and I don't know if I'll be able to take it up again in time to achieve anything by then, but I will DEFINITELY come and cheer you all on! I may even be able to volunteer, but with two toddlers to look after, that may be a toss-up.
'Bout time we had a Nationals of ANY stripe in Chicago! :D

Me too! I so want to do it (although it would be a 12 hour drive for me)!!!!
I need to get pre-bronze knocked out this year and work on all the bronze stuff then.....save some $$$$ up.....get a routine......music.....etc.......I am so psyched and motivated to get my jumps!!!

No problem! ;) I was more than happy to have it in my own town! (though I'll still get a hotel room the night before I compete...don't want to be distracted by laundry and chores)

It's in the back of my mind as of right now. As you know, there may be a lot of stuff happening between then and now that will change things.
Of course, I think for Dallas we might have to save dimes! We can't drive there.
