New to the forum. Mainly skate in Indonesia but also the UK (London - Alexandra Palace) and occasionally in Singapore. A student in London hence why I hardly have anytime to skate. Started skating 2 years ago but have never been serious about it. Just learning how to spin (2 foot + 1 foot) and a jump - Waltz jump or 3-jump it's called in the UK I think - both failing miserably.
Although in love I am with the sport but at the moment I'm only doing it for fun. Perhaps one day I might join the adult competition (21 years).

Hi
I used to live in Indonesia but there was no rink in Jakarta when I was there.
I've skated at Ally Pally once or maybe twice in a competition but mainly skate at Bracknell. You have plenty of time to practice for next years Bracknell Adult Open in June (after exams maybe !!!) so perhaps we'll see you there. :)
Good luck with the skating.
Hi, and welcome! My daughter just came back to the US from a semester in London, where she skated at Ally Pally once. She really liked it and it was inexpensive by comparison with skating in NYC.

Hi there and welcome to the forum. I'm from the UK but haven't been to Ally Pally. I skate at Bracknell with Batikat.

@Tashakat - Dawn Kalber is my coach. She's lovely. :) Where do you skate now?
@Batikat - Hopefully I can join! Never been to Bracknell. Skating is not a popular sport in Indonesia so I can imagine.
@DBNY- I wish I can skate in NYC - the outdoor rink where Serendipity was shot. That'll be grand. :)
Just a few question about competition - for the adults, what are the age divisions?
I'm 21 now - I guess youngest should be 21 or 18 - Will there be any other age division in the competition. For example, do 21 year olds compete with 30 year olds?
How good do you have to be to join the competition?
I'm around level 10 I think but only had test until level 5 - I'm hoping to get Bronze when I get back to London. I'm very much a beginner.

Hi, and welcome. I skate once a month at Ally Pally, on the first Wednesday evening, in the dance class, and then stay on for the social dancing. Normally we skate at Streatham, which is the right side of London for us!
The adult age groupings vary enormously from competition to competition (the Americans will tell you different, but their system is different to ours). If you choose to compete in one of the international competitions in Europe, you will skate as a Young Adult, I have a feeling that's now been rechristened Age Group 1, and is 18-25. I hope you will enter the Mountain Cup while you're in this hemisphere - we haven't had a skater from Indonesia before, although we do have our regulars from Singapore, and much loved they are, too, even if one of them does skate as from a club in Estonia nowadays.....
At the Streatham Open, however, the division is under 40 and over 40 (I think - I am not a free skater myself and don't always "do" Streatham, although I'm usually there helping if I'm not skating in the Artistic/Exhibition class). But Bracknell divides its adult free skaters into three age groups, although I'm not sure what the divisions are, while the artistic, improvisation, and Interpretive classes are only divided by skill level, not by age. And so it goes... you just have to read the instructions for each competition before you enter!
