God help me, I think it sounds like fun.
Sounds like it could be fun to watch. Although, in reference to the producer's comments, I would be truly shocked if one of the celebrity skaters actually mastered a double axel in six weeks.

Who knows, maybe they have a few ringers...
Can anybody think of any celebrities that could be on this show? The star from 'Ice Princess' wasn't half bad.

Ooh, I'd love to see who they get--the 'celebrities', I mean. They say they're looking for folks who already know how to skate at least a little...probably a good idea. (It's not too interesting watching someone do swizzles and a one-foot glide, after all! ) I'd love it if they got Allison Janney...I don't know how far she got in the system, but she'd probably be great fun to watch. Also, Elijah Wood would be super to watch...I don't know just how much skating he's done, but he didn't look too shabby on the Rock Ctr. ice in his SNL appearance. He's totally got the right build to do really well on ice.

How about Condie. ;)
Some other names that come into mind are Vera Wang, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jason Priestly ....

It could be fun and one reality show that I would watch (I did catch dancing last week and for the first time am watching for a second night a reality show)
well, if they follow the ABC "dancing" celeb type of line up
Model
Soap Star - oh hey wait does FOX have a daytime soap? Maybe some from Gilmore Girls or One Tree Hill
Sport star from another sport - wouldn't it be great to see Karl Malone or Michael Jordan?
Teen Idol - now actor/actress
Reality show ex-star - don't watch reality show, so can't give a suggestion
Older actor/actress - someone with a geat body, who could do pairs?

I vote for Michael Vartan (Michael Vaughn on Alias, was just in Monster in Law), he's a hockey player. Of course, I'd vote for him to be on most anything.

there was a soap star, a young actress who was a skater in CA before she got her break in acting
I thought Jamie Pressley was a skater, but she was a gymnast. Maybe she did both? Hubby thought so since he listens to Howard Stern and she is on there frequently.

Former Reality "star" catagory could be filled by Allison from Big Brother 4. She said in one of the episodes she used to be a figure skater.

Yippee....now all we need is "Paris and Nicole--on ice!"   Scary thought.
Ennh.....I'll still watch it, no matter who they get. It'll be fun to see the ones you do like hopefully do well, and the ones you don't like possibly take after the Zamboni. Any way you slice it, knowing how difficult it really is, you've got to hand it to anyone who gets out there and tries it.
[quote=7302005]Older actor/actress - someone with a great body, who could do pairs?[\quote]
Ooh...how about Sela Ward? Or anyone from Desperate Housewives. That would probably go over very well. They ought to get someone from Lost, too. Evangeline Lilly would be great eye candy out there, and I'd love to see Josh Holloway on skates....could be a fun time for all. ;)

The woman who plays "Hope" on "Days of Our Lives" was a figure skater, I've been told.

Nicole Richie used to skate in Culver City with Robert Brathwaite and Johnny Baldwin, way back in the day. She was actually very talented.

Rebecca Herbst used to be a figure skater... decided to be an actress instead. She plays Elizabeth on General Hospital.

Do you suppose we could suggest that FOX takes our suggestions (with the exception of Nicole and Paris -pleeaze, then we would really need to get the costume or non-costume police as one of the judges)

I'm all for Nicole and Paris on ice :)
But they hate each other now...SO if I had to choose one, let's pick Nicole Richie...it would probably bring the ratings way up...and if she actually was Novice, then there might even be some talent :)

This sounds exciting! I was randomly looking up reality tv shows and found it. One thing I'm particularly excited about is that most celebrities arent very young (in figure skating terms) and it would be lovely to see what kind of progress they can make... of course this show might not get to Singapore but at least I can probably understand the online commentaries mumbo-jumbo for once. (As opposed to other reality tv shows)

The Dad from Malcom in the Middle actually figure skated in one episode. He wasn't bad.
As for Tom Cruise - guys who do pairs usually have to have some height - he is a little vertically challenged. But he can jump on Oprah's couch well!

It would take them a month to count the blade marks up his back.

Comedian/Actor Mike Myers plays in a recreational hockey league... so he can obviously skate and might even be able to spin...
The KTLA morning show in southern CA had an update on the show this morning. Among the skating participants will be Tai Babilonia and Katerina Witt (I think). Among the "celebrity" participants will be Dave Coulier, Debbie Gibson, Jillian Barberie (gag) and .... are you ready for this .... TODD BRIDGES! 8O Scott Hamilton will be the host of the show.
The KTLA reporter picked Jillian Barberie as the one who may surprise everyone. Apparently before becoming a local tv personality, she was in the ensemble case for Ice Capades. We know that Dave Coulier has some skating experience. But I just can't imagine Todd Bridges on skates ... my guess is that he'll be the Evander Holyfield of this show.

From this week's Newsweek:
Careers on Thin Ice
You've seen them dance and diet, but the most delicious has-been reality show is yet to come. Fox's "Skating With Celebrities" is in production right now, and the network hopes it will air this fall. How do we know it's the best ever if we haven't seen it? One word: gore. "You'll see a lot of falls, no question," says Fox's Mike Darnell. "We've already had one incident of blood." As if that weren't enough, "Skating" gives you two kinds of has-beens—washed-up stars and washed-up skaters—for the price of one. The stars: Dave Coulier, Jillian Barberie, Deborah Gibson, Todd Bridges, Bruce Jenner and Kristy Swanson. They'll be paired with Nancy Kerrigan, John Zimmerman, Kurt Browning, Jenni Meno, Tai Babilonia and Lloyd Isler. Dorothy Hamill is the nice judge. And the nasty one? No word, but, alas, Tonya Harding was unavailable.

Washed up skaters?? Excuse me, but these are some of my favorites!
If the producers really wanted to do it right, they would've had Todd Bridges with Christopher Bowman!!!

I agree! I'd HARDLY call Kurt Browning or John Zimmerman or ANY of them "has beens" for that matter!
Anyway, it sounds like it'll be an awesome show to watch! Just a fun idea all around.

I don't think Deborah Gibson is exactly washed up eitehr, as she is, in Dick's words, a "Broadway baby."

Other hockey-playing celebrities include Denis Leary who has organized many Celebrity Hat Trick hockey games, where I've seen in addition to Denis, Senator John Kerry! Seeing him figure skate would be a hoot!
I suggest Michael J. Fox, if he could manage it with his Parkinson's. That would be very inspiring to see, and he's such a personable star. Michael always plays in Denis' charity game too.

Anyone know when this will premiere?

It was reported in my local newspaper (Fl. Sun Sentinel) that Scott Hamilton and Nancy Kerrigan will be participating. This will be on Fox in the fall. They named several others, but it escapes me for the moment.

This is interesting -- i loved dancing with the stars, but, as an adult skater, i KNOW the muscles take more of a beating, even when you work your butt off! I am wondering who gets the first concussion! I wonder what level they will take it up to? Is if figure skating or dance?

I wonder how they're going to pair them up? I'm assuming 'set' pairings.
How about:
Dave Coulier/Jenni Meno
Deborah Gibson/Kurt Browning
Kristy Swanson/John Zimmerman
Jillian Barberie/Lloyd Eisler
Bruce Jenner/Tai Babilonia
Todd Bridges/Nancy Kerrigan
I think Kristy S. and John Z. would look great together, and I'd love to see Deborah G. and Kurt work together. (I can see them pairing him with Jillian too, though.) Whoever gets Todd Bridges ought to be interesting...does he skate at all? I just can't picture it.

Well, if Kurt is in it...
My question is how "real" will it be?
Will "arm flailing" be the criticism of last resort? How about terrible costumes?

I recall reading in an article that some of the pairings are:
Jenni Meno/Todd Bridges 8O
Tai Babilonia/ Bruce Jenner
John Zimmerman/Jillian Barberie
Nancy Kerrigan/Dave Coulier
I can't recall the other two for sure.

You got some wrong info. Nicole wasn't higher than Prelim. One of the last competitions I remember her doing, she was in Basic 5.
Nice girl though!

I remember reading that she had gone higher than that, because she rec'd money from the USFSA for training. She did a little skating on The Simple Life too, but didn't demonstrate anything that a pre-juv couldn't do.
Has this aired anywhere? I was under the impression it was going to be shown starting 9/14, apparently my FOX affiliate didn't pick it up.

I don't believe an air date has ben chosen yet. I read a review on another board from someone who had been at a taping of the show a few weeks ago, and according to her, the date was still to be determined. I've also yet to see any previews for the show when I watch Current Fox programs.

You can apparently get audience tickets for next Friday, too (the 14th)--only thing is, I can't figure out where they're taping--could it really be at the studio address given on the ticketing site?
Ah well...not like I'm ever in an area where they tape any kind of skating show--I'm in the 'flyover states' as far as skating shows are concerned. And the Midwest apparently doesn't exist for competitions.:P

I've already been to one of the tapings and I'm going to the final taping next Friday. It tapes at a TV studio, the one listed on the tickets. They set up a small ice surface there in the studio.

This all sounds facinating. I would like to know....is it clear that this is pair skating and not ice dancing? Both are difficult, but totatly different. Even skates that are used are different. I would think it would be ice dancing. As difficult as it is, ice dancing is a bit "tamer" then pair skating.
