I ran across this website today. Got about half-way through, and it looks accurate.

ETA - with the links, there's loads of stuff

Only skimmed the site, but it seems like a great basic resource. Thanks for the link!

Most of the content on this website is mirrored from Wikipedia.org, the free encyclopedia that anybody can contribute to. If you'd like to add more to the figure skating articles, or write some new articles, you can reach the source page at

I've been looking for a reason to mix into Wikipedia! (Just in case it comes up at work, I'm ready!)

Thanks for the link -- I made a few changes to the figure skating page.

Here's an oddity I found on that page that I don't understand:

Spiral sequences are also required (in women's skating only), and involve lifting the free leg above the hip to a position equivalent of the arabesque in ballet, or the scale in gymnastics.

Is it true that women's skating requires spirals and not men's skating?
I thought all tests were generic -- could they be describing competition requirements? (I have to unearth my rulebook!)

Hmm. Off the top of my head, I'd think they were talking about competitions. The Novice MIF spiral sequence, for example, is required for both sexes, as far as I know. I can't recall seeing a required spiral sequence in senior men's competition, though. Don't know about the lower levels,

Yes. There are no separate his and her requirements in the MIF test structure.

On the USFS Juvenile freestyle test, men must do a forward camel spin (min 4 revs in position) while ladies must do either a layback or an attitude spin (min 4 revs in position).

This is the only freestyle test with separate element requirements. The Novice - Senior FS tests are 30 seconds longer for men than for ladies.
