I want to go!

From everything I hear, there won't be enough tickets to go around. Do you have any helpful hints - aside from going with a tour, that is?

Meredith, I don't think there are ever enough seats to go around for Worlds, especially when they're in Canada.

For Vancouver, I was staying with a friend so I didn't need the tour package. Otherwise we would have gone the tour route. We discussed our "strategy" for weeks before tickets went on sale. We decided to each buy a pair of tickets knowing that we'd be able to sell the 2nd set. My friend got on the phone and I went on line to purchase. I got 2nd last row lower bowl, she got upper bowl seats.

Good luck.

Thanks, VGL. I love the support Canadian fans give their skaters.

I had wonderful seats at D.C. Worlds, but only because a friend had an extra (bless his heart). :D

Thanks for the idea!

Meredith - Try to dial up the number one minute before so that you are connected the minute they go on sale. If you can, use a cell phone, & regular phone and just keep hitting the redial until you get through. or use the Internet (or all 3). In the Saddledome there are only 14 rows in the lower bowl, (Vancouver GE Place has 25) and I hear that they are already sold out because the Brass, the sponsors & those that have season's tickets to the Flames have first crack at these. The 1st 4 rows of the 2nd tier are also good, ($895) so you have a chance for them if you get through within 5 min. I went with a tour in Vanc. because this seemed like just too much of a hassle, & I am not going to Calgary because I am going to Turin. Good Luck! Let us know how you do.

Skate Canada sent out an e-mail to it's members regarding advance tickets. They are available for groups of 4 to 20 tickets. Check out the members only section on their website if you are a member.

If the $395 tickets are still available, are they worth getting? I mean, are the seats so high up in the nosebleed section that you can't really see much? From what I'm gathering, the only seats not taken by tours, other advance sales, first callers, etc., are pretty poor. So if I'm going to get poor seats, I might as well get the cheap lousy ones rather than the expensive lousy ones, right? Anyone out there have experience with this situation or with the Calgary Saddledome? Thanks!

Why don't you check out the Ticketmaster site and see what's available? I was on the other day and there are still some decent seats (singles, mind you) in the lower 2nd tier.

www.ticketmaster.ca -- you'll have to search for 2006 World Figure Skating Championships

Thank you so much, SKATERSMAMA and THE OLD GURL. I'm working on it and hoping that I'll be able to go. Obviously, time is of the essence!

If you are even planning on going, I would suggest that you book rooms as soon as possible. It is easier to cancel than try to book what is not there!!

Yes, as soon as you get your tickets, book your hotel, or if you can get a reservation that you could cancel if you don't get tickets, book it now.

A lot of the hotels I was considering were already gone when I bought my tickets (I did this 6/1 as soon as the tickets were available - I got 2nd level 1st row at the Saddledome, BTW.) I did get reservations at the Holiday Inn which is within walking distance of the Saddledome, which actually was one of my first choices, but just about everything else I was interested in was taken.

I hope some skaters will be at my hotel!

Do the skaters all stay in the same hotels? Who makes the arrangements? Is it Skate Canada or thier own federations? I would love to have some skaters staying at my hotel but I would think that they would stay at the more expensive hotels.

SC has used the Delta Bow Valley and Westin hotels in Calgary as 'host' hotels in the past. I also wouldn't be surprised to see teams/ISU types in the Marriot and/or Hyatt hotels either, perhaps even the Palliser.

I would imagine that they stay at various hotels depending on what their federation picks or what they can afford. I would guess that there will be a lot staying at the Westin, Hyatt, Sheraton, and other higher-end hotels, but perhaps some of the lesser-known skaters may be elsewhere.

When in Vancouver for Worlds in 2001, apparently Evgeny Plushenko was having a late night because I was awakened by screams from outside, "Evgeny!!!!!!" I'm not sure if he was returning to my hotel (don't know where he was staying) or simply in the neighborhood.

I have stayed at hotels near the event for Ice Wars and for a USFSA invitational and saw skaters in the lobby, e.g. Brian Boitano and Johnny Weir. I also saw Brian Joubert (looking very sad after the previous night's loss to Plushenko) on an escalator and even got to ride in an elevator with Michael Weiss, Rena Inoue, and John Baldwin.
