...I just looked at Heather's schedule, and is it really that there are no Worlds broadcasts (US) on anything but ESPN? I've been surfing my television schedule on the weekends, thinking I'll see some skating somewhere....but nothin'! I guess I missed the memo, eh? I haven't seen any international skating this year, at all.

Nope, it's true--ABC didn't renew their contract. Sucks, yes?!

Wow, that totally blows! In past years ABC has had weekend primetime coverage of at least the long programs ... Is it possible they're going to show them a couple of weeks later? I usually watch at least some American coverage to compare opinions of the commentators with ours.
D'ya think ABC thinks the cold war is still on and they're boycotting Russia? ;)
You'd best move up here to Canada. We've got 14 hours of primetime coverage on CBC, shown even without basic cable to every TV in the country.

It's just not as popular a sport here

I guess the networks really did need to leave room in their schedules for Arena Football. Because we don't get enough football on TV as it is.:roll:
I swear, PBS needs to pick it up or something...I bet their ratings would be awfully nice with that.
Ah well....one more reason to LOATHE ABC. (As if I didn't have enough already.)

Its really not that the people on tv up here love skating....its just that no one watches football except the Super Bowl and there is no hockey this year.......all in all I think the whole thing worked out better for us!

The picture quality for the worlds was terrible this year on espn.It was really hazy. When the camera was trying to follow the skaters on the ice they couldnt stay in focus.Either they were using older equiptment or they were trying to convert from the pal system over to the US ntsc system.Having been able to view CBC also.I consider the CBC broadcast to be far superior in picture quality. The colors were all washed out in the espn broadcast.Do you suppose they were trying to cut cost?I know for sure it was the broadcast from moscow that had the washed out look.As soon as espn returned to their regular programming the quality improved tremendously.Did anyone notice this?

ESPN really was horrible.....it is like they want an excuse to get out of the contract. and Sport Center told us that coming up was the pairs free style.
Not that it will do much good, but I e-mailed them with my comments...

The picture I got was great, and I was watched ESPN on a crappy little tv. It was really good, though. The only thing that sucked is that the camera men didn't know what they were doing and ruined everything, and was that the Jam Cam I kept seeing shots from, even though it went uncredited (guess Smuckers didn't like all the death threats...) Either way the picture quality was fine here.
