Heard on the CBC News last night that after "21 years" broadcasting for the CBC the network let Chris Cuthbert go. Why? Apparently, with the NHL season a gonner there just wasn't enough work to keep him on!

I think this is really sad ... Chris was a very decent announcer, not only for hockey but for figure skating as well.

I just read about this as well. It is very sad. However, if CTV or TSN want to be really smart, they would hire Curthbert ASAP. They need someone of his caliber for the Olympics. Actually, I would be a little bit more at ease with the thought of CTV broadcasting the Olympics if they had Curthbert aboard.

Amen! Now if I could just figure out how to get CTV! I've always treasured our CBC reception here in ND.

What a shame, although I can't say I'm too surprised. With the double whammy of losing the NHL season and then losing the 2010 Olympics ... I think there was a lot of belt-tightening going on over in the CBC sports department.

I agree that CTV would be very well advised to pick up Cuthbert.

Oy. I hope this doesn't mean that Don Cherry will be doing skating. Wouldn't that be a hoot! OTOH, he may like it, given that the skaters don't wear helmets.
