Hi!

Well, as you can see this is my first post (lol I hate to be a newbie but everyone was one at some point so better now then never, :D).

I am a HUGE fan of gymnastics (hence the name) but I love figure skating also....I know the general stuff but I was wondering if y'all could answer a few questions I have. (I want to write a story/book on FS but obviously I'm not the best qualified person out there! :))

First....(these are all about senior women's figure skating, btw) how many competitiors total will go to the 2006 Olympics?

I'm a little confused as to how the qualification round goes....which program will the skater skate to, and how many skaters will advance to the SP?

Then...how many skaters from the SP will advance to LP. :)

Thank you! I'll ask more questions if I can remember them, lol

I have a feeling it's about 24... not sure about the exact number, but I'm pretty sure it's a smaller number than those that go to Worlds.

The skaters skate their LP in qualification round (so they skate this programme twice in the competition). Some skaters have two different LPs and use one for the qualifying and one for the actual LP, but not many do that as it's hard enough to train two competitive programmes to the top level, never mind three. Plushenko and Lambiel have both used 2 different Lps in the past, but not sure about any ladies who have. I'm not positive how many skaters advance to the SP, but I think it's something like 30 (15 from each qualifying group). There are no qualification rounds at the Olympics though.

The top 24 after the SP advance to the LP.
