Hey all,

I noticed that the Skate Canada website posted results from today's short program at NACS New Brunswick...

Good for Skavdahl & Davis to place in the top 3! The ordinals from judges 2 & 3 were quite a bit off from the rest of the panel, but I'm glad to see these two doing well.

I don't suppose anyone is there who will post a report on the elements completed in each of the disciplines?

I too was surprised to see the Canadian girls 1-2 after the short program but things have really changed over the past few years and its no longer a given that the US girls will dominate the NACS events.

And good luck to Dube & Tetreault in the jr pairs freeskate tonight. Jess and Sam are two of my favorite young skaters so i'm hoping for the best for them.

I just got back from the competition on the novice ladies.

Jillian Asby came back form 6th place in the short to win overall. She landed two huge double axels, and two triple toes. She was clearly the winner of the free skate, because nobody else landed any triples cleanly.

Renee Petrie came second in the free and overall. She skated well, but I've seen her skate better. She did two nice double axels and stepped out of her triple sal. and then she fell on a triple toe attempt. Her presentation has improved alot this year.

Cathrine Nadeau was third. She skated a good program with two doubles axels, and three of four triple attempts. She almost had the first sal, but she stepped out. She landed the triple toe but it was a little cheated. She also tried a triple loop that was underotated and i think she may have doubled another triple sal attempt. Her program was good all around though in terms of presentation.

Cathrine Hebert was fourth in the free as well as overall. She had the best speed in the group, but unfourtunatly she didnt land any triples. She did two nice double axles that she FLEW into. And then she fell on a sal attempt that was two footed and underotated. I am not certain if she tried any other triples or not. But I dont think she did. She seemed to be a little tight on most of her jumps today though, hung onto quite a few of them. She has good speed , spins and presentation though.

I dont know for certain the the order of the other girls. But if you have any questions about how they skated, feel free to ask. :)

Thanks for the report! I'm not surprised Jillian Asby did so well, as she was the top U.S. lady in the field by far. I was a lot more surprised by her finish in the short, actually. The other U.S. ladies are all just up from intermediate (the equivalent of pre-novice in Canada) and I think only Karpowitsch actually medaled at nationals, while Asby was 7th in novice.

Thanks, Alli! How did Katrina Karpowitsch (the 2002 US Intermediate ladies champion - equivalent to Pre-Novice in Canada) skate in the FS? At Skate Detroit, she landed good double axel combos and attempted the triple salchow (and triple flip in her qualifying round FS), but didn't land them. And do you have comments about the other US ladies?

Edited to add - look how close the factored placements were for the top 4 in the final results:
1 Jillian ASBY USA 3.0 (6th in SP) + 1.0 = 4.0
2 Renee PETRIE CAN 2.0 (4th in SP) + 2.0 = 4.0
3 Catherine NADEAU CAN 1.0 (2nd in SP) + 3.0 = 4.0
4 Catherine HEBERT CAN 0.5 (1st in SP) + 4.0 = 4.5

Any reviews of novice and junior pairs?

Katrina skated an ok long. I belive she did two double axels nicely, but her triple attempts werent great. Her sal was popped , and she didnt do any on the warmup that were good. She tried a flip that was a pretty
good attempt. She has lovely spirals in her program i noticed :)

Christy Graham is a so cute. She smiled the entire way through her short and long programs LOL Her double axel isnt always clean, but it looks like she would be abel to do it soon. She didnt try any triples in her long , but tried a loop in the short that was underotated. she has a lot of speed and great double jumps. she looks like she could be good in the futur.

I didnt get to see the junior pairs but i hear i missed quite a show. I saw the last group of practice this morning and they were awsome. Dube/Tetrault(sp?) were amazing i heard. Someone told em that they did a throw triple loop in their LP. Anyways i know that they won, but I'm sorry i dont know who placed second or third.

I didnt see much of the novice pairs this weekend. I only saw one or two couples in the short and i didnt get to see any longs. ( i did have my own skating this morning LOL Couldnt miss practice!!)

Bye for now :)
