View Full Version : OK, I'm sorry that Johnny Carson died, but...

I REALLY don't think that this warranted breaking into regular programming for a Special Report and a long-a** retrospective. It's not as if it was a US president dying, or some pressing National/International issue.
Funny, I had a premonition late last night that a break-in would happen. I just thought it would be related to the Bizzard '05 that has been pounding the Northeast region.

I just posted on this in another forum...I'll cut and paste.
And yet again butchered by ABC. Yes, it's sad that Carson died. But you know...breaking into skating and chacking half of Kimmie's performance isn't going to bring him back! Why can't the networks figure out that we'll be hearing ALL about Carson for the next week...nightly news, throughout the day, what have you. We get skating ONCE. If you're going to hold your viewers hostage and force them to watch something they didn't sign up for, it had BETTER be DARN good. Like, the world is well and truly ending. This doesn't qualify, sorry.
I'm disgusted and  too!

My exclamation at the time it happened was "Oh crap, here we go again, skating getting chacked and interupted!"
It is sad that Johnny died, but for heavens sake, a quick mention during a commercial break and good coverage during the nightly news would've been enough. They could always produce a special just for remembering him rather than do what they did today!

Lets hope they will rebroadcast it on Espn in the near future.
When, and if that does happen, I will post it here

I agree with everyone here. This is a story that could have waited until a news break. Nothing would've changed if they had broadcast this at a later time.
While the retrospective was airing on A.B.C., I channel surfed and discovered that N.B.C. and all of the cable news networks were doing a "Breaking News" story about Carson at the exact same time as A.B.C. was, so I'm assuming this so called "Breaking News" was more about keeping up with their commpetition than sharing important news.

What competition did they interrupt? (Just wondering.)

I also emailed ABC (ABC News, to be exact...since they're the culprits) right after they did it. I also dropped a mention of how I really appreciate Leslie Moonves of CBS. When CBS News broke into an episode of CSI for something or other (that wasn't even as trivial as this, although still unnecessary) Moonves went medieval on their butts (apparently the fan outcry was huge, and CBS News had been warned NOT to break into programming), and he had the CSI episode repeated.
I let them have it, politely of course, and signed 'no love'. :P

Yes, this is quite irritating! During Nationals our local tv station interrupted Bebe's lp...and right after meissner's program was interrupred for the first time on sunday, there was an update on the blizzard... even though it was no longer snow and the snow had long since stopped before then! so i got to see about 45 seconds of her program

The Nationals exhibitions
As long as Johnny didn't interfere with Johnny ;) . That was the important thing IMO. :)

ITA. I was almost dying on the day of the long program, when our local ABC station was showing a basketball game (between two teams that aren't even in our state, BTW) and I was afraid it would cut into the men's live broadcast. (It didn't, but we lost all but the last half of the last dance program).

The weather... UGH! The tv stations are so totally MINDLESS when it comes to the weather. I want to vomit everytime I hear them talk about the "weather team"... by the way, now that I live in FL I don't have to hear about the blizzards of the century m(seems like the last few years in MD we had several of them called "Blizzard of the Century". So, was this blizzard blitz the "Blizzard of the 21st Century" or simply "Blizzard 2005"?
