:?: :?: Does anyone know what Michelle Kwan is doing for her short program? TFB? EOE? Rach? Anything new by Christopher Dean?

I believe he choreographed her short program years ago, that was an Eric Clapton song, Line?. Somehow it was too avant garde for the judges and she never used it other than in GP events.

Just curious.

According to the USFS (http://usfsa.org/AthleteBio.asp?id=2267) website, Kwan has chosen "Adagio" from Spartacus.

I love this music; can't wait to see her performance.

And I guess Morozov choreographed it ... ?

Thanks - I guess I didn't look hard enough on that site.

Has any one seen it? I know it's the short program and is limited by the required elements, but how it is put together makes a difference.

Michelle will be debuting the SP at Nats (just like Sasha). There is a link around somewhere where you can listen to it. I'll look for it. The link makes it sound grating on the nerves, but I think it'd because of the quality the player was playing on. If you can get past that it actually sounds quite pretty.

Dean choreographed "Rush" for Kwan - we only got to see her perform it once, right? She skated it at the Master's competition, I think.

She also skated this SP at Skate America and Skate Canada in fall 2000. IIRC, the judges didn't seem to like this program, so she went back to using East of Eden.

Now I recall. The movie Rush was about drugs, and the music selection she? or (Dean?) chose was called Tracks. (ergo where I came up with "Lines"). I did see one performance. It left me cold.

BTW, I went out on Amazon.com and looked up Spartacus. If Michelle is using the music by Aram Katchaturian, it is pretty. There are sound tracks that you can play.

Kwan used Eric Clapton's "Tracks and Lines" from the "Rush" soundtrack and also "Bad Love" from Clapton's "Journeyman" CD.

I liked her Clapton program. I thought the Miraculous Manadrin was less than stellar.

Yes, Morozov was at Lake Arrowhead this summer, I got to meet him while I was taking from Rafael. Michelle's music is from Spartacus but I can't remember how it goes?

This is most likely the Katchaturian Spartacus as has been mentioned. Lovely music. But wouldn't it be cool if it was the music from the movie Spartacus. It is also lovely music and not as familiar.

IIRC, the Love Theme from Spartacus (the movie) is really beautiful.

For all of you guys out there on the lookout for GREAT skating music, you should dig a little deeper into Khatchaturian and his contemporaries, the Russian "mighty handful."

Rimsky-Korsakov
Khatchaturian
Borodin
Prokofiev
Mussorgsky

IMO, Spartacus is great but WAY over-used, so is Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov. I get really sick of seeing the same music over and over again. It seems like US skaters are actually worse than the rest of the world about recycled music. (and, of course, some skaters are worse than others.)

I would love a temporary ban on all toga-inspired music, if you know what I mean....
