Does anyone know where I can find a review of Brian Boitano's Skating Spectacular?
Thanks!
Melissa

Hi Melissa! I asked on the SOI board and got a nice review posted in response! :)

It was a great show! Brian even sang in the beginning!

Oh and the whole skit thing with Elvis and Steven was rehearsed. I was in the rehearsals earlier and they were practicing it...Chewbacca wasn't originally in it!

purplecat, that site requires registration even just to view it.

Sorry Artemis. I should've said it requires registration as a disclaimer. :(

I always forget which boards do and which ones don't. This board does too, right? Or does it? See! LOL! I always forget!

A couple details from the review... the poster said that each skater did one number that fit the theme (the Rat Pack/Las Vegas theme) wearing 40's-ish costumes and one other number. All the guys wore Elvis jumpsuit costumes with Elvis Stojko coming out first in the finale.

At least we don't have too long to wait to see this one for ourselves on New Year's Day. I just hope the football doesn't run long like it has many times before!! :frus:

;) Actually, this board requires registration to post, but not if you just want to read stuff. Which is a common set-up. For the SOI board, though, you need to register just to view posts.

Thanks for the mini-review though. I do generally enjoy theme numbers, so that's something to look forward to. But if it was a Rat Pack/Vegas theme, the vintage would be late 50s / early 60s, not 40s.

Who is Chewbacca? :?:

Chewbacca is a Wookie, the giant furry creature who was Han Solo's co-pilot and sidekick in the original 3 Star Wars movies. (Please tell me that wasn't a geek test. ;) )

I can't for the life of me picture how Chewbacca fits in a Rat Pack skating theme ... but something more to look forward to I guess. :??

Ok..Brian did his partial Fly Me to the Moon number...Elvis and Steven came out with chairs and said "here old man have a seat...come on Mr.Spectacular."...something else was said and Brian said to Steven "did you hear something? Oh it must have came from down there." as he looked down at Elvis. Elvis replied, "at least you are looking at hair." Steven laughed and Brian said, "look who's talking Chewbacca...I need some of that to transplant up here!"...It was funny...staged, but funny.

And yes, the entire cast came out dressed like Elvis. Brian was in a red Elvis get up.

It was a good show...a few people complained that it was pre-empted in their areas..

That's a little strong, Captain. If Elvis Stojko annoys you so, just leave the room when he comes on TV or go to the restroom if he's in a show that you attend.

There is room in figure skating for all styles of skating and music and all types of physical appearance.

In my opinion, Elvis has lots of charm, warmth, determination, class, and humor. And I think most skating fans agree with me that he's pretty darn cute, too. I always look forward to seeing him.

I've gotten the impression from "captain's" other posts that the sole purpose for his/her posting is to bash Stojko.

I thought the show was good. But they had to much singing with Diana Degarmo. They should have had more skating.
