Well, yeah, because he's got the best program of anyone that's competiting at his level this year. Brian's not going to win any internationals with that mockery of a program he's got this year, which is sad because his jumps are pretty much the best in the bussiness. His and Weir's, though Weir is just digging his own grave by not doing the quad. Now there's so much stigma around it, it WILL be stressful no matter when he does it. Shoulda done it at the grand-prix, but oh well. Plushenko's pretty much got it made this year. Too bad we hear reports that his knee is still bothering him (what was that about "natural healing?"). I hope he holds up til 2006, he deserves the gold, and that afterwards he WILL take care of his knee. And perhaps come back, if he wants to.

Hmm --
Well, I'm wondering if any of you guys know the answer to this -- How did Plushenko qualify for the GP Final if he only skated one event -- Cup of Russia?
I just don't get it. Can't find it on the ISU website. Is that just how the numbers shook out?

Well maybe if someone steps up to challenge Plush with quads, consistency, and an engaging program then they may win instead. The margin that he won by speaks for itself. GO PLUSH! I am really hoping he holds out to make it to the olys and skate clean.

When Weir withdrew, it left an open spot. Apparently (and I don't know this for a fact) there was a tie between Plushenko, Weiss and someone else for the first alternate spot, and Plushenko won the tiebreaker to skate in the event. I read this somewhere, but unfortunately I don't remember where.

Thanks -- I think you are right -- I saw on the USFS site that Plushenko was put in for Weir, but I thought it was a little strange. I hope they explain it when they show the final on TV (and I hope I remember to watch it/tape it!)

Yes, it was a 3-way tie between Plushy, Weiss, and Zhang (12 pts each). However Plushy wins the tie-breaker based on having the highest placing in a single event -- i.e., 1st.

Looking at the detailed judges scores for this event, how can you tell what level (1-3) was assigned to the spins, footwork, etc.? Can you tell by the base value or by the number in the elements column? For example, Plushenko's 6th element is "FCoSp1" with a 2.0 base value. So is that a level 1 or 2.0 element? Thanks.

I just saw the re-run of it last night. Man Plush was on. This guy plays anywhere. This program is getting standing O's wherever he competes with it at. I think this performance topped his CoR performance and he wasn't even supposed to be there. Paul and Terry had it right. He is a rockstar.
Jeffy is sooooo talented. Even with the fall, because so many other things are going on, you practically forget. That's a skater for you right there. Congrats to him!
I didn't ge to see Li, but he must be happy with his medal.
*Sigh* Eman Eman Eman. I think Paul Wylie's theory about what could be going on with him makes sense. It's like he's painting a picture and when one thing doesn't turn out right, he stops being interested and just wants it over with.
Brian. Well, at least his costume is better than what he originally had. Still though, the footwork is too Alexei. I can appreciate Brain's solid edge work though.
That's all I saw.

Sp is Spin and the number after it is the level. Thus Sp1 is a level 1 spin.
