yesterday i was watching Sasha's long program at US Nationals last year (i downloaded it) and before she fell on her triple toe the commentator said something like "But the doubts started to creep in when she fell six times at the last two competitions"....do you think that what he said couldve broken her concentration? like make her think about falling? just a thought...

Umm..how would Sasha have known the commentator said this? Skaters don't hear the commentating.

No, there was no way for Sasha to have heard what was being said. Sasha has a history of being inconsistent. I think this year at Nationals she will skate a clean short and long program....this is the beginning of a new, fall free Sasha. :)
I can't remember if Nationals was aired live last year, but some skating events are taped and the commentary is added later. The commentators may have already seen the whole thing so they already knew what was going to happen. Sometimes if you listen to the dialog, what is being said and the direction the commentators seem to be going, you can get a hint as to how things are going to go for a particular skater.
Live or not, either way, the commentators are nowhere near the skaters, so they would not have heard anything while they were skating.

Isn't it weird how whenever a commentator says stuff like that the skater falls? It happened to Sasha at 03 Nats too...Peggy said something like "This is the jump she fell on at the Olympics", and then Sasha fell on the triple toe. I believe she was supposed to do a toe half loop Sal.

well chances are if she fell it was not well prepared for, therefore it may have been a repeat of the same mistake.
so superstitious, people.
good skaters can have a baby wailing during their program but still skate clean.
they must be very focused and calm, something that sasha lets slip, but that could change with practice!

You also have to remember that the announcers have seen the practices or their people have. They have notes telling that about this spot in the program, skater x has been having problem with this jump.
As a side note...last nationals, a friend called me just after Sasha fell and said "Toepick"! LOL

OMG! I remember when a baby cried during one of Sasha's programs and she DID fall! This was about 2 years ago, or maybe even last year? I was SOOOO mad at the person that brought a baby to a competition. Who would do that? It's just too distracting to the skaters. If I had been at the competition I would've given that parent a piece of my mind!

Actually...i doubt she would have heard the baby cry or have it affect her program. When you are performing, you are so concentrated that you actually block out all noise that isn't relevant. I used to compete in gymnastics and it's the same thing...you don't even hear the crowd noise while you are performing your routine...

and if you can't block out the noise, you shouldn't compete at the elite level of any sport.

I had a seat at Campbells right beside ABC, in fact, they had a long wire on my seat when I arrived, and I asked them about it, gave it to them. Peggy, Dick etc. were right beside me. I could barely hear them. I'm sure the skaters could not hear them while they were skating and could barely hear them in the kiss and cry area or at the gate.

It is possible the loud noise affected her, however it is not unusual for her to have an error in her program.

Ok, how about not blocking it out, but not letting it affect you either? And I would think the idiots that use flash photograpghy would be much more distracting than a baby crying.

During that particular event, except for her music, the arena was dead silent during her performance. I swear you could have heard a pin drop, so the baby crying was loud in comparison. Although right after it happend TT called out "Okay!"
It doesn't really matter though in this incident. It didn't throw the program off, and it was only a fluff event anyway, so no big deal I guess.

If you could hear a pin drop over the sound of music in an arena, you've got really good ears, LOL!
