Hey all,

Does anyone know if Johnny Weir, Scott Smith, and Derrick Delmore will be required to skate at South Atlantic Regionals this year? BTW while I'm asking that, has Scott Smith changed clubs since he's changed coaches? I guess that would put him in New England if he did. I know that Weir, Smith, and Delmore will have byes through sectionals due to conflicting international events, but do those byes also allow them to skip regionals? If they do not have byes, then senior men at South Atlantics could be quite an event!

These are the senior men skating out of South Atlantics, as far as I know...

Shaun Rogers, Chris Vaeth, Brad Griffies, Rusty Fein, and then Smith, Weir, and Delmore. Though there are 7 men in Souths, I can only think of Clark, Lind, and Fromknecht as the other competitors for Eastern Sectionals (ok, maybe Ian MacAdam and Richard Reyor too), so even if there were more than 4 guys at regionals, they'd all get to skate at sectionals since the field would be smaller than 12, right?

Just thought I'd also point out that Shaun Rogers could get a bye through South Atlantics if he gets a 2nd JGP event in early October, which there are several TBD's for.

Since Weir's main goal appears to be recovering fully from his old stress fracture injury and being ready to compete at the final two GPs (Cup of Russia and NHK Trophy), he likely won't have to compete at South Atlantic Regionals (Oct. 8-12) unless he's healthy and wants to test out his new programs there. Not sure if Scott Smith will keep his MD club affiliation (the 2002-3 club registration deadline was back on June 30th, before he switched coaches to Mark Mitchell/Peter Johansson in Boston, I believe). Delmore may be required to do Souths, but then again, he may want another competition tuneup before Skate America and Skate Canada anyway.

Scott Smith & his family are from MD. He was already registered for the new season under Gardens FSC when he did Liberty. I hope he keeps his current club, but if he changes I guess it would have to be done this month before the Sept 1 cutoff. Good luck to Scott. His skating is looking good this year.
