View Full Version : Can Weir defeat Plushenko?
Maybe not if both skate extremely clean.
But can an "on" Weir beat an "okay" Plushenko, or even an "on" Plushy?
Will Weir be allowed to?
Heck, is Plushenko even planning or going to be able to skate at Worlds?
If not, is Weir pretty much a lock to win?
Just a lot of fun speculation. :)
No spoilers please, but I am not sure if there would be any about these 2 skaters yet.
Also, will Weir be allowed to defeat a clean, 2-quad Goebel at Nationals, considering that the 6.0 system will still be in place?

If Weir skates clean and Plushenko doesn't, then yes, he can beat him.
If both skate clean, then my money is on Plushenko.
If they both mess up, it will really depend on who messed up which element(s).

Judges will always pick Plush unless they have no other choice.

Worlds are in Moscow, so my bet is, Weir can beat Plush if Weir actually ADDS the quads that he can actually do, but either way he won't win this year.

I prefer Weir to Plushenko, but Plushenko has a solo quad and one in combination. Weir needs the quad to beat him.

I don't know enough to say if he can or not without the quads... but Weir is certainly turning out to be a very interesting skater to watch. I like his skating... I think I am on the verge of becoming a fan. I'll be interested to hear what the experts on the board have to say about his chances of beating Plushy.

Weir has a great chance to best Plushy. Weir's skating is so much cleaner than Plush's. The spins, jumps, body positions etc. The code of points will work in Johnny's favor.

On the spins, yes, but otherwise, Johnney needs a quad to beat Plushenko...Plushy's jumps are amazingly pure technically, including his quads, which he often just sticks, pleanty of room to land them, no question of an underrotation etc. Plus Plushy has wonderful command of the ice...great presence, you can't take your eyes off him from start to finish.

I don't think he will this year, barring serious errors by Plushenko, but there's still lots of time for him to become a serious challenge to Plushenko.
