I thought I would never see another short program as exceptional as Yagudin's "Winter", but Johhy Weir's short to "Rondo Capriccioso" by Camille Saint-Saens is right up there with it, IMO. Weir's program totally blew me away. I had to watch it three times in a row before I could go on with the rest of the tape.

edited to correct the music, as pointed out by NoVa Sk8r

It was one of the best SP's I've ever witnessed. The power & passion, the precision of jumps, execution of the choreography...all were breath-taking. I place it up with Boitano's '88 Olympic SP.

I wish I would have seen more of it....I thought they were going to commercial so I walked a way for a minute or so, and came back to see Johnny skating. After he was done I realized it was his short program.

Weir is skating to "Rondo Capriccioso" by Camille Saint-Saens for his SP, right?

And, yes, it is a gorgeous program. Even without the quad, the program is magnificent!

Johhy Weir's short to Paganini's Violin Concerto #1 is right up there with it, IMO. Weir's program totally blew me away. I had to watch it three times in a row before I could go on with the rest of the tape.

I've now watched this program at least a dozen times, and see something new every time. I don't think I've ever seen a skater display such attention to detail.

It comes on again Sunday on ESPN2 at 12pm or 1pm maybe.

Thanks for posting that! My tape is bad - I can see everything, but it bounces and wavers. It's not my vcr, because I've taped everything else successfully, so now I get to try it again and get a better copy of that SP! :D

It is a wonderful program. The choreography is superb and Johnny has an excellent sense of the music. One of the best things for me is the music editing. It is just about perfect. The program doesn't seem like highlights from Saint Sean's piece but instead it sounds as though it was written just this way in order to be skated to.

Mary Scotvold used to edit Paul Wylie's music this well but I haven't heard many other programs that are so musically seamless. I wonder who edits for Johnny. I can't think this one was done by Tarosova. She isn't that interested in making music sound this good.

I only taped the last couple of hours of that competition -- when did they show it? After the pairs?

I will try again next Sunday -- I just love those programs (few and far between IMHO) where you want to watch it again and again.

Wow.

Yes, it was right after the pairs.

I'm looking forward to seeing this program as he is one of my current favourites. I hadn't heard of him til I went to Worlds in Germany last March and his skating was a revelation in terms of the quality of basic skating and effortless jumps with seemingly weightless and whisper quiet landings - I went to all the practice sessions so can verify they really are as light and quiet as they look - and the expressive programs.

I was lucky enough to meet him and he was delightful to talk to and was kind enough to write a good luck message to my daughter too. I hope he does well this year.

I just checked the listings -- it's not listed -- darn it!!

Oh well, just have to wait to hope they show it again, or hopefully see it at Nationals...

I love Rondo Capriccioso but so few skaters are able to capture the mood of the music! Weir does it wonderfully, it brings back memories of tiny MK in 1995 skating her free program at worlds and being so small and graceful, except Weir (who is obviously older) is so graceful and flowing without being so tiny!
