It did? I thought it was supposed to be on at 11am PT, no?

But since you have digital cable, Lise, subscribe to COUNTRY TV (or something like that) because they'll rerun COC tomorrow morning.

Started right on shedule here. Joannie's skate was superb. I haven't done a point-by-point analysis but my impression is that she should have had a much higher score than Victoria (as opposed to the only slightly higher score) and won the silver. But hey, she still qualified for GPF so I guess that's what counts.

And Irina was unbelievable! I never thought she'd be able to come back to this level! Worlds is going to be so exciting!

On my tv it stated that it would start at 2pm. It started at 1pm instead so I missed Joannie's skate all together. Thank goodness I have the video clip from cctv on my computer.

I checked country canada and they are not airing this, but are airing a exhbition from Lyon, France tommorow.

That really sucks about missing the first hour due to a changed/different schedule. I would have been ticked too. Is the digital cable schedule always different from regular television or satellite? Perhaps you could write the station about proper warnings for changes in program scheduling.

As for the skating itself, I enjoyed it much more than last week's program (even though I liked that too). The most shocking thing for me was the fact Underhill and Martini did not seem very impressed with Buttle's LP. They credited him with having great components but I got the impression they just didn't like the music or choice of choreography. I guess it's not everyone's cup o' tea but it puts me in awe.

I also think they thought Leung was cute. :) They didn't say as much, but the tone in their voices as they spoke about her just gave me that impression. Leung's skating has improved a bit, I think, was from last year and it seems she's trying to add in more steps and movement. I'd like to see her go a bit faster and connect more with the music or at least look like she's performing rather than working. Ah well. She's still cute and more importantly, she seems quite consistent. Depending on how some of the others skate I see her being in contention for the bronze medal at Nationals.

Rochette was awesome. That's all I can really say. Her program is tad eccentric but, hey! It's figureskating. It's to be expected. It was great to see her so happy with herself, a smile flashing out after landing each of her combinations.

I actually enjoyed Irina's performance today. I used to be bored by her but today was different. And I'm glad she's better again, it was sad that she couldn't skate last year due to illness. I love comeback stories.

I thought Jeff Buttle was inspired! His technical merit could use a bit of work but the program was unbelievable. It has so many great dimensions to it. I completely disagree with the commentators about saying " There wasnt any moment where they could jump out of their seat" I was on my feet the whole time!!!
Joannie was really good as well. I thought she even deserved a little more for the presentation components. I was a little turned off my Irina... I mean she skated well but I really dont like her carriage and style. Even her presentation seemed, blah. Maybe I was missing something though.. What do you guys think?

What I always do when recording anything on tv is start recording an hour and a half earlier than the time it stats and also finish recording an hour and a half after everything is supposed to be done. That way I never miss any of the skating because I have had that happen to me a couple of times before! Sometimes there will be a football game or baseball game or something like that and the skating will start later tahn its supposed to and so things go overtime. So maybe you shoud try what I do...its really helpful.

To be honest, I still don't think Irina has the best presentation out there and I certainly think Joannie should have been alot closer than she was in TCS at least. I just thought Irina had a sparkle today (well, actually about 2 weeks ago). But thinking about reputation-judging and "wuzrobbing" is too depressing and takes away from the joy of watching the skating itself so I try not to think about it too much.

And I completely agree about Buttle. His footwork sequence combined with the music is so exciting and then the music builds as he goes into the 2A, 3S sequence followed by his amazing closing spin is spine-tingling. Even the opening of the program catches me--it's so confrontational, especially when the camera focuses on Buttle's stare. It's almost like I'm being accused of something. It's interesting; he seems to go through the emotions of being conscience-striken, mournful and filled with angst and angst is always good.

I think it's a mistake. My JAM! TV Listing states that they'll be showing Cup of China. And my digital cable provider stated that CBC was supposedly going to show Skate France this morning--obviously, they were wrong. I think the same mistake exists here.

It did start early in Winnipeg. I set my timer for 2:00 and it started just as Irina was skating. Oh well - such is life. Besides, Joannie's skate next week is better so if I get to see one, that's the one I want to see!

I checked Jam and it said that it was showing Cup of China. So, I ordered the channel and will see what will be playing! :)

Thanks for all your help!

But it should have actually been on at 1:00 in Winnipeg since CBC was airing it simultaneously across all times zones.

It was on at 2:00 eastern. My expressvu schedule indicated it wasn't being time shifted.

Peter, on our tv guide and digital guide, it saud 2pm. It doesn't matter now, country canada is actually showing Cup of China and I'm recording it.

I've called Shaw Cable and told them my complaint.

Yay, Lise, I'm glad you're getting to see this competition after all! It certainly was exciting!

I thought S&Z's skated their LP much better here than at Skate Canada, and I still think this could be their best LP ever when they skate it cleanly. It looks like they'll only get better throughout the season. I thought M&B held their own fairly well in this competition, too. :)

As for the ladies, all I have to say is  to Irina, Joannie and Mira! I never thought we'd ever see Irina skate at that level again and that was probably the best performance I've seen her skate in at least two years. I'm glad we actually got to see Mira's entire LP this time, and I agree her maturity and general presentation has already improved quite a bit since Canadians. I loved Joannie's performance, too--the triple-triple, the interesting choreography and the fact she did not use the same overused cuts of music as virtually everyone else who's ever skated to "Firebird" (including Mira). Her costume looks much better "in motion" than in still photos, too. Even though I agree Viktoria's needs more jump combinations and complicated choreography to do better under CoP, she should still be proud of herself since that's the cleanest LP I've seen her skate in years.

BTW, did anyone else notice Paul's remark about Michelle and Sasha skipping the GPF and hopefully working on their triple-triple combinations?

A big thank you to CBC for showing both of Jeff's programs. It looks like we'll only get to see one SP from each GP event, but I'm certainly glad they featured Jeff's this time. What a wonderful comeback after his disappointing Skate Canada LP! I also thought Paul was a little too hard on Jeff's music choice--I'd probably agree with Paul if almost any other skater had used this music, but Jeff's one of the few skaters I can think of who can make this program work. 8-)

As for ice dance, meh, I'm sorry to say I'm not a big fan of any of the ice dance programs we've seen so far this season. I'm glad B&A and D&L won medals, though.

My only complaint about yesterday's CBC coverage was all the World Cup skiing fluff interspersed throughout the skating and the fact the broadcast ended 15 minutes early (at least in my area) to show even more skiing fluff. Who knows how many more SPs CBC could have shown during the time they filled with skiing, but at least I enjoyed what they did show.

Another thing I appreciate about CBC's GP coverage so far is it's the "non-fluffiest" (for lack of a better word--LOL!) skating broadcast I've seen in a very long time. They actually treat skating like (gasp!) a real sport instead of a soap opera. Let's hope they'll keep it up all season! :)
