Watching Jeffrey Buttle in the Cup of China tonight made me feel that the men are doing more inventive and more difficult spins than the women. Is this so? Is it the layback that is holding the women back because they must do it and so put more into it? Buttle's spins were truly remarkable. I especially liked his travelling three turn with extended free leg entrance to his camel, which he then switched over to a FO edge and back to BI, and then on to other variations.

When it comes to Jeff, chya it's better than the women! Heh, yes, overall I do believe the men have better spins. Does anyone remember Weir and that incredible mushroom spin? Geez, it's amazing.

I don't know if men have more innovative stuff than the ladies. In Canada, our guys are definitely trying out some cool moves in the spins but I wouldn't say that, overall, the men are doing more than ladies or that layback is holding ladies back. I think with CoP I've seen more ladies doing variations on their spins this GP circuit than in the past.

I agree about the men doing more interesting spins. The ladies have to do a layback spin, but look at a skater like Lucinda Ruh whose combination spin had so many different positions.

I definately appreciate what the men are offering in terms of spins these days compared to the ladies. Look at skaters like Buttle, Lambiel, Klimkin, Weir, Jeanette, Sandhu and even someone like Neil Wilson from Britain. They all have amazing spins.

But then I think the men have improved artistically over the last few years in leaps and bounds.
