Who/What is Eric Bompard?

OK, pleading ignorance here, but who is Eric Bompard? My 'net search gave me a website for a store, and lots of FS sites about Trophee Eric Bompard. Is it just another French company sponsor? What happened to Lalique?

It's the new sponsor, Lalique pulled out. Eric Bompard is a cashmere company in France.

Going back to the 2001/2002 season Eric Bompard (a hig end cashmere designer/outlet) joint sponsored GP France along with Lalique (a crystal wear company) and TélévisionFrance3, but last summer Lalique pulled out due to dwindling attendance and hence investment value.

I know that in the past the winners got pretty Lalique trophies, I wonder if they're now giving out cashmere sweaters? 8-)
