View Full Version : Anyone have any Wild Rose results?
Unfortunately, I'm not able to get up to Edmonton this weekend to take in WR. If there's anyone out there who did, I'd be very interested in the Junior and Senior events...thanks a bunch!

I was going to go, but since I have no idea when Langlois/Archetto are scheduled to skate, I don't think it's worth it. I live in Edmonton but the only other recognizable skaters there are Michelle Currie and Courtney Sokal, I don't think they would skate all that great because it is so early in the skating season up here. I have seen L/A before so it's no big deal to me. Sorry

I went to the mens and ladies free skates today, it was very dreadful, so I will spare the gory details, Michelle Currie was the class of the field, she landed a beautiful triple flip, and just got away with the triple loop and triple lutz at the end. The mens event was just as bad, i didnt get to watch Chad Kilburn, but Daniel Lee wasn't that bad, he had a few triples, jus no quad and no triple axel, but still a nice presence.

Sorry you didn't make it up there Lee. I was there for the whole weekend but left to drive home right after the Senior Ladies this afternoon. Kyle is right, Michelle Currie was the class of the field - she had a very good short program, just a step out between the 3 lutz/2 toe combo. Triple flip was excellent - she's keeping her short program from last year. Her long program was up and down jump-wise - she's trying the 3 sal/3 loop combo but unfortunately only managed a double/double ... but it's early in the season and she's looking confident. The biggest surprise to me was seeing Leah Hepner back - she's the former junior champion from Calgary who quit about 2 years ago. Obviously she missed competing! She didn't have a great competition but she's looking not bad.
The skater who I really enjoyed was a little novice from Saskatchewan - Kristin Bonkowski - what a joy! She has such presence already (she's only 13) so watch out when she gets consistent jumps!
Langlois & Archetto didn't skate but they attended a lot of the events.

What about the Juniors (including pairs and dance)? Anybody see them?

There were only two junior pairs teams competing and I can't remember their names - they're not listed in the program. The team who won the pairs were hands down the winners. Junior dance was quite entertaining: first in the long were French & Chipeur with a very upbeat program and second were Keating & Simpson who did a spanishy theme - a softer, more fluid team, I thought - and they just moved up to junior.
Any other questions, I'll try and remember from my foggy brain!

Hi ruth01w,
Did Alicia Beach compete and if so, how did she do? It is really too bad that there are no official results posted at th AB/NWT site.

Sorry for not replying Florac. Alicia Beach was listed in the program but, to be honest, I can't remember her skate. I only took notes of the seniors and a few junior or novice who really stood out for me! And it was a few weeks ago now and my brain can't think that far back. LOL. I'm surprised that the site hasn't been updated with the results.

I got to see some of the junior and senior events. Obviously it is very early in the year and I really didn't expect to see too many spectacular performances. Rather, I was looking at content of the programs and wanted to see whose program kept my interest if the jumps weren't there. Monica Boucher's long program is quite good but the rest of the Juniors really didn't stand out. As for the senior, Michelle's were okay - not really exciting - I liked Courtney's new programs - very nicely presented. Leah Hepner's short was quite good. Corrine MacKay had the best short program , in my view. Great jumps and good speed. The men were not very exciting - like I said, it is very early in the year and obviously there is a lot of work to do! Saw some beautiful triple flips and loops from Courtney in the warm-up - now we need to see them in the program. Good Luck to all the skaters in the upcoming year!!!!

I agree Sugarcane, I liked Courtney's programs - if only she could have landed the jumps. But it's early and it gives her a chance to work on developing the complete program. Corinne's short program was nicely laid out - pity she fell on her first jump. She has some work to do on her long though! Another lady who does well in practice is Sarah Schmidek but the nerves seem to kick in when it comes to competition - her speed is amazing though.
