Shae-Lynn and Peter have decided to go their separate ways. Here's a link to the press release on the Skate Canada website:

That was a quick partner ship. Good luck to both skaters.

Wow, after all that build-up ...
Although I would have liked to see these two skate together, I'm also not entirely disappointed that Shae is staying solo. After seeing how utterly fabulous she was at CSOI last spring, I figure she doesn't need anyone else to skate with. Plus she and Vic were such a magical partnership, it would just seem wrong to see her with anyone else.
As Cid said, good luck to both Shae and Peter.

It did seem wrong for her to skate with soemone else. Maybe they figured there was no chance of Peter getting citizenship in time.

I know it's wishfull thinking... but on Brian Orser's official web site schedule Shae-lynn is listed to skate with Kraatz on the Celebration On Ice Tour.

She's not listed on Cele On Ice's site to be skating with Vic....

Ummmm, I think she did, and believe it was HE who changed his mind about becoming a Canadian citizen and not competing for Canada.

Shae-Lynn knew what she wanted, but oviously Peter had different "goals" in mind, therefore the partnership ended. Its too bad, I was looking forward to seeing them skate. Ah well !!

I'd like to post a quotation that was posted on the Skate Canada website:
“Recently Peter decided against pursuing his Canadian citizenship and was not able to commit to skating for more than one year,” said Bourne. “Our career goals are very different and after a very honest discussion we made a mutual decision to end the partnership. “
Having said that Shae-Lynn had her "goals" in mind. It just didn't work out with Peter since he had his own "goals" that he wanted.
I look forward in seeing Shae-Lynn skate LIVE again in the near future.

I think they would've been good together and was looking forward to a chance to see them skate....but on the other hand, I'd enjoy seeing Shae Lynn skate solo---maybe she'll join SOI for US & Canada tours next year.

Can she do any jumps??

I was excited for the new partership to see if Peter could be as good as Victor (since Naomi held him back) but I liked Shae and Vic too much to really care much for a new partnership. 2006 is coming up!
Can she do any jumps??
She can, although she hasn't done any for several years. Skating isn't all about the jumps though and after seeing Shae skate solo, she will do just fine.

I agree with VGL, Shae-Lynn does just fine "solo" I've seen her skate "solo" at SOI last year, and she did a fabulous job. I look forward in seeing her skate again real soon !

Well I'm hoping to confirm her coming to our event 2004 Latin Skating Celebration (http://www.skatingforums.com/showthread.php?t=15349) in a couple weeks so feel free to drop by :D ;) :halo:

I loved Shae and Victor but I wouldnt pay to Shae skate freestyle.
With Katia Gordeeva going single it was different. Pair skaters do double axels, complex spins, and triple jumps as part of their training, plus there was the sentimental aspect of the tragedy of losing Sergei.
Not the same option for Shae...maybe in Canada, but not here.

Thank You, my feelings exactly. I'm afraid skating is about the jumps. Triple axels, quads, thats what the winers in the comps are doing and that's what draws crowds to the shows. If you can't jump, you're not in the running. I'll spend my money to see the big tricks. Hydroblading is just a glorified shoot- the-duck on an inside or outside edge. I wish Shae the best of luck, but I don't think singles is the way to go.

I'm afraid I disagree. Isn't figure Skating also about the artistry and being able to entertain a crowd? Sure the jumps are great but I don't think you need Quads and Triple Axels to draw a crowd in. I think that Shae-lyn will do just fine, with or without jumps. It's not like she's trying to compete. In that case she would need jumps. She's just out to try and make a career for herself, entertain her fans, and have a great time. I think she's doing a great job of it too. These are just my opinions, for what they're worth.
I also disagree. I saw her at CSOI last year and at Kurt's Gotta Skate this year and she absolutely blew me away. At Kurt's show, she got the biggest ovation of the night - on a night when Elvis, Orser and Sale and Pelletier were there!
She has more charisma in her baby finger than a lot of other skaters have in their whole bodies, and she mesmerized the audience from the moment she stepped onto the ice. I was a fan of hers with Victor, but I'm even more of a fan now. She doesn't need a partner and she doesn't need jumps to have a successful pro career for a few years.

Count me in as another in the "skating isn't just about jumps" camp. Especially in a show like SOI, where it's great to have different skaters showcasing different strenghts. I wouldn't be thrilled with and entire show of single dancers, but having just one makes a nice change. And especially when that one is Shae. Just in the way that she moves -- she was in a class by herself in all the ensemble numbers in CSOI last year. I had lousy seats but could still pick her out a mile away because her basic skating, movement, and expression abilities were head and shoulders above the rest of the cast.

While jumps are exciting, 6-8 jumps account for (at most) about 30 seconds of a 5 minute performance. Its always (primarily) been about the skating between the jumps for me. Otherwise I'd just watch gymnastic vaulting.
Anyone see Shae-Lynn on the Today show this morning?? She did her "All That Jazz" number.

It's true that Shae has not jumped much, if at all for the better part of the last decade. It's true that jumps are a large part of programs, but I think that the emphasis should be on competitive programs, as opposed to show programs. There are a lot of skaters that double planned triples in show programs and realistically, even if you notice, you don't really care because it's the rest of the program that makes you forget about the "error."
Shae has an incredible ability to capture an audience without the jumps, with the right choreography (like Caruso) it's easier to "forget" there wasn't any jumps.
That being said.... watching the finale of Gotta Skate, when the cast is skating together and the ladies in white...... they all do single axels.... Shae included.
