Hi everyone. Question: Does anybody know what Sydne Vogel is doing these days? I know she competed at German Nationals in 2003, but she isn't on any of the results lists from 2004 German nationals. What happened to her after the 2003 German nationals?

I live in Anchorage and skate at the UAA/Wells Fargo rink. I've seen Sydne there a few times. She's got a coach, and she appears to be training for SOMETHING...does anybody know WHAT?

She looks pretty good. It would be unfortunate if she's working her butt off for nothing.

I thought I saw Sydne listed in the roster and/or results from a recent club competition in the Northwest. Maybe she's signed up for regionals this year?

How was she able to compete at German Nationals? Her name sounds German, does she have something to do with her family that allows her to compete there?

I'm not really sure HOW she got to compete at German nationals...German ancestry, maybe? That's just a guess. In any case, she DID comepete in Germany in 2003, and she DIDN'T do well. She placed 15th. She's not on the 2004 results list, by the way, so I'm assuming she DIDN'T compete in Germany then.

Here's the results from 2003:

(Note: They're in German, of course...but look at #15. It's her.)

Yep - she has German ancestry. And I think I read she went to Alaska before the 2003/04 season and mainly coaches there.

Any idea how she did?

I was playing around online and I found a 25 year old Sydne Vogel who completed a "5-miler" in Alaska on Sept. 18th... in 36:12!!! If this is accurate, that's just over 7-minute mile pace, and I am impressed.

Sydne competed at Northwest Fall Open in Spokane, WA two weeks ago.

I don't think results are online, but someone who was there reported that Vogel won the short program in a field of 3 senior ladies and "tried only triple sal and double axel and landed them cleanly" in her FS.

After doing a little more poking around, I found this (scroll down):

I used to talk to Syd a lot on line but I have not talked to her for a while. Last thing I knew she was actually training for a marathon or a mini marathon..........kind of a cross training thing for skating. She was back in Anchorage and was training very hard for a comeback. She is someone who I never really thought had peaked, so I for one am very excited that she is back on track. She seemed very motivated that was certain. She really had a fire in her that was not really present previously.

Click here (http://www.usfsa.org/event_related_details.asp?ri=content/events/200405/regionals-nwp/senladies-final.htm).

She won Northwest Pacific regionals - she placed third in the short program, first in the free skate. We'll see what happens at sectionals, but I'm excited about this. :)

8-)

as i stated on fsu, senior ladies sp was miserable...scores went as low as 1.7...definately a night of "bad figure skating" (reminded me of the saturday night live skit of "bad theater"...)

the following night things improved...

sydne's nerves messed up her short...it was obvious that she could do a triple lutz in her sleep...but not that night...in the long she skated rather well...

my gut feeling is that, if she skates for herself and the joy of being there, she could go all the way...she's a strong and mature skater with all the goods who is really in shape physically (not to mention that she's quite pretty...)

also...as strong as she is, i can visualize her doing a triple axel somewhere along the way...would love to see her try...

I know that she was landing triple triple combinations........... I forgot what they were..... I think triple sal/ triple toe??? did she warm up any of these? I agree about the triple axel. I think she could do one. I think that there are a lot of women that can do them. I think that jump is like Bob Beamons long jump record {world record for 30 years, no one could touch it, he broke the record by jumping that far once in his life and set it by 2.5 feet!!! Once someone broke it {which was a sad day} mentally others realized it coudl be done and a few others were able to do it} I think that this is starting to happen with the triple axel.

I think that syd just had a bad few years with injuries and bad luck. This happens to others. I just think that most people would give up. She did not and hopefully she will continue to improve.
