That's in millions of viewers, that saw it from start/finish. Compared to...
[quote:22a45e2875]Academy Awards ABC 41.78[/quote:22a45e2875]
And the NBC Olympics ladies freeskate live had around 49 million.

Maybe if ABC wouldn't treat skating like a second class sport and... who ever would have thought... ADVERTISE it, maybe they would get more viewers.

There's no advertising for skating shows on ABC???
CTV often has 30 second spots letting you know what skating shows are coming up and when.

Nope, no advertising. Well maybe that isnt the truth - the advertise about 10 minutes before it comes on  Showing it within reasonable time of the event taking place could also help. :?

These skating ratings aren't actually bad. Think about it - the Simpsons is consided a huge hit, and skating placed above it. It's all about how many of which target market watches. The Simpson's is a hit because it scores very well in that desirable, 18-24 male market. I'd imagine that skating scores very well with women, so if an advertiser wanted to reach women, skating would be an ideal vehicle.

Yeah, skating isn't the most popular with 18-24 males. Any clue why all the networks like that rating so much?

I recall it being stated numerous times, including by Gannon, that skating's ratings were second only to those of football...if that is the case, then in this particular instance, the ratings plummeted drastically, it would seem...below basketball!!!
CBS, number 24, NCAA basketball had 11.97 vs. 7.72 for Worlds skating and other basketball on CBS in the 10.15 range.
Its only one event, however, can't draw too many conclusions.

The Academy Awards will always appeal to a broader audience than any individual interest, imho. Even people who have little interest in movies/actors/clothes/whatever seem to feel that they *should* watch it LOL. It's a pop culture touchstone.
Though yeah, I didn't watch any of the Worlds skating live, either LOL....

And I mean "live" as in when they were broadcast ;)
