I was looking at the Skate Canada site, and it says Pascal Dennis is skating with Martine Patenaude at Skate Canada International. What happened to Piche? I thought they were married? Can someone fill me in?
It's fairly simple: Josee retired and Pascale wanted to continue. He found a new partner.

I've seen Patenaude & Denis at Nebelhorn Trophy this year, they were very nice to watch. (I think they are a better match than Piche & Denis, both from their body types and also expressions).
Here are some photos in case you are interested:

Hey fsfan, I'm intrigued, exactly what is it about Mr Denis that displeases you so?

The extra height in his new partner really seems to have made a difference. Josee was always a very good skater (Pascal is great too), but she was perhaps a little short for Pascal. I think these two will have much cleaner, nicer lines, now that there is not such a gap in their heights. They look great! Wow, Canadian ice dancing looks so bright now! So many potentially AWESOME teams!

I find there's also a much different chemistry between Pascal and Martine than there was between Pascal and Josee.

It's just that P&D have continuously been skating and finishing in 4th place.. year after year.. I had a lot of "sympathy" for them...to be so commited to the sport, yet never moving up, must have been tough. They would go to international competitions and always finish in the bottom 2 or 3... I just don't understand why they would continue skating in the amateur "leagues", knownign taht they wouldn't move up.
I was happy for them this year, that they qualified for the Worlds...
I hope that this new team makes some gains.. I've heard some favourable reviews, and I hope it's true.
It just seems like they (P&D) have been around FOREVER....

Hey fsfan, thanks for the feedback, but you know the same could be said for Shae and Vic, they were first in Canada for 10 yrs but it took them 10 yrs to finally win Worlds...., they were actually moving backwards too for a little while too .
Another thing that was impressive about P and D was that they got as far as they did while training in Quebec with Quebec coaches....unlike all the other top 5 or so teams who are training in the US or elsewhere.....hats off to both of them for arrying out a busy coaching/partnering schedule while training full time as well.
And yeah, Patneaude and Denis are a team worth watching this year, Martine's style and personality really compliment Pascal's.
