EXHIBITIONS- didn't take notes but most of the programs (and skating)were/was spectacular. Exhibition skaters were:
Juvenile: Sasha Lanser, David Sorenson, Friedenberg/Dunie-Newstadt
Intermediate: Jane Ruan, Zahradnicek, Vick/Navarro, Morse/Rainey
Novice: Katrina Hacker, Schuyler Eldridge
Junior: Britt Adams, Michael Solonoski
Senior: Emily Hughes, Johnny Weir, Galler-Rabinowitz/Mitchell
Thanks to these skaters for a wonderful exhibition show!
Senior Pair:
Orscher/Lucash look good for this point in the season. They did both their SP (same jazzy music as last year) and their FS (Sansom/Delilah). He hit 3t in SP and fell on the first in the FS, doubled the 2nd. She fell on 3t in SP but hit both in the FS. Throw 3f was looking good, small mistake in SP I think it was good in the FS, with also a throw 3s. 3twist good, sbs spins in FS he fell out, hers was great, pair spin too slow and I don't think it's an impressive or effective way to end their FS. Otherwise, I really like their SP as I did last year, they are looking comfortable with it. And the FS music is a huge improvement. Lifts look a little smoother too.
Senior Men:
Rohene Ward- totally amazing. He did both his SP and FS. I remember some fantastic spins and a cantilever, 3axel looks great as do the other triples. I really like his programs this season, more than most of the ones he's done in the past, and everything looks really solid and high-level. Good luck to him this season.
Johnny Weir- super short program with some great spins. I remember 2 3toes and 2z, and good choreography, but I was so tired by that point and didn't take notes, though I know he was a joy to watch and did a great job. Best of luck to him on the GP this season!
SENIOR LADIES FS
1. Emily Hughes- 2ax, 2z, 3f, 3r, 3t, 2z-2t, 1ft. axel into 3sal (und.) Gorgeous Ina Bauer, rockin spirals and layback, good footwork, the whole program was fabulous A+. She has such a joy about her skating that is refreshing to see.
2. Jenna Adams- 2ax, problems the two triple attempts (toe and flip, I believe), but she did get 2f, 2f-2t, 2r, a couple other doubles. Gorgeous skating, dropped leg laybackgreat flow, spins with some creative positions very nice, great spirals, falling leaf/leap move, nice fast back spin. Despite not having the hardest jumps work in this program, she's just a really lovely skater to watch. Really liked the music too, whatever it was.
3. Michelle Cantu- 2f and 2t were clean. Turnout of 2axel. Music was Don Quixote. Fantastic spirals.
4. Rebecca Rose Fritges- 3s into 2t, 1ax, 2r, 1f-2t, and 2s were clean jumps. Good layback, nice camel to catch foot position, some spins could use more speed. Sleeping Beauty was music.
5. Ana Cecilia Cantu- 3s (und), 2ax, 2z were the clean or close to clean jumps. Fell or stepped out of some other jump attempts-- music was West Side Story. Nice spirals, good layback, cool straight line footwork, nice program.
JUNIOR MEN SP
1. Elefante- 3r, 2z-2t, 2ax. Some spins ok, some needed much more speed. Fantastic circular footwork. Overall a solid effort. Music was Jazz I think?
2. Solonoski- 3z-2t, 2r, 1ax. Flying camel, sit/sit great, gorgeous combo spin and strong footwork sections including a cool-looking knee slide. Good program to Kismet by Bond.
3. Jones- 2ax, 1z, 3r (2foot). Good sit/sit spin. Great choreo in footwork, all kinds of nice touches and moves in this program, final combo spin was just great, loved this program.
4. Raney- 3z (fall), 2ax, 3r (und/stepout). Sit/sit good, camel ok, footwork could use more difficulty in comparison to some others in the comp, good spin combo, Circular footwork ok.
5. Childers- 1s, 1r, 1ax (turnout). Bolero from Moulin Rouge.
JUNIOR MEN FS
1. Solonoski- 2z, 3t, 2ax, 3r, 2t, 3s (fall), 2ax, 2z. Tosca. Wonderful spin positions, to be critical, the spins had some slight traveling but nothing major, and nice feeling into this program-- I don't have as many detailed notes on this skate as sometimes I just like to sit and experience the program without worrying about writing every few seconds...even though I'm sure he was going through a program with all triples, it was nice to see some clean doubles and the program felt to be one of the most solid and satisfying to watch.
2. Raney- 3t, 3f, 2ax (turnout), 3z (fallout), 3r (fall), 2f, 3s (fall), 3t (hand down), 2ax. Mission. Most spins fine to good. Very nice camel position, good footwork. A much stronger skate here in the FS, which I think is more representative of his abilities than what he showed in the SP.
3. Elefante- both 2ax clean, fallout on 3 flip, falls on 4 triple attempts (ouch!) but I think this was just an off day, the jumps looked good enough but he was kind of slipping or off-balance on the landings. It seems like in every junior men's comp, a different guy will do a 4+ fall program, at Liberty, it was Traighe in the Final FS, and unfortunately this time it was Steven's turn-- next time it will be someone else. Nice camel spin, great serpentine footwork, strong skating. West Side Story.
4. Jones- clean jumps were 3t and 3s into 2t, and 2f. Problems on other jumps unfortunately. Nice spirals and fly sit. Gorgeous bent spin. Good music I'm told included Cusca or Cusco or however it's spelled.
5. Childers- 3s, 2z, 2f, 2r, 2s?, fall on 2ax. Nice camel. Music was Prokofiev's Montagues/Capulets. Skated with more conviction than his short program, this was nice to see.
JUNIOR LADIES FS
1. Britt Adams (1 overall)- 2t-2t, 3s, 2r-2r, 1ax, 2z, fall on 2ax, 2f? Excellent spins, great program, very complete and strong to Mulan, good music! Loved it!
1. Michelle Wiggett (2 overall)- 2z-2r, 2ax (2ft), 2r, and 3s-2t were good. A couple of her other jumps came apart before completion. Nice scatch spin to end, I liked this program a lot. Good music, I think it was Capriccio Espagnol, but someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
3. Jazmynn Manzouri (4 overall)- attempted two 3salchows, one which looked pretty good, the other und./so. A couple good doubles, some attempts at triples that weren't quite around...some moments of brilliance, really dramatic effect to Nina Rota's Romeo/Juliet, but the spins could be improved. I hope to see her at her best one day-- I think she has a stunning presence on the ice.
4. Alyssa Curran (3 overall)- fell on attempts at 3s and 3t, had a 3s with a hand down, 2f-2t-2t combo and 2ax-2t were good, also 2r. Great layback to start. Nice expression and great use of both arms and legs
5. Jenny Erica- 3t (to), 2ax, 2r, 3s (fall), 2f into 2t, 3s (fall), great layback and spiral, very nice program to something that sounded like a movie soundtrack.
