For those of you in the U.S. who are interested, Peter will be appearing on a new reality show called "Into Character" on AMC at 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday the 25th. An adult skater will have her dream come true when she gets the chance to work with Peter on her skating.

Please pick me as your adult skater on your next "Into Charater." I would be happy to learn skating from you. I'm a hard worker and am a very dedicated skater, but need lots of work to become a better overall skater.
If you are reading this and you're willing to work on a "somewhat hopeless case", please PM me and we can work out the details.
(Yes, I wrote this very tougue-in-cheek, but if he's seriously reading this and wants to take me on, I'm open!!!)

Me too!!! Me too!!!
Seriously -- I have a few ice-dance fantasies, one of which is to skate with Mr. Tchernychev. Also being coached by him...
Great post!!
[To Mr. Tchernychev, please PM me also if you are looking for more opportunities to skate with dedicated adult skaters!!] -- I'm here!!]

I just finished watching the show and is it just me or did she do her toe-loop one direction and her flip the other?? That's pretty tricky...

This was a fun show. Too bad it was only 1/2 hour long. It would have been nice if they had spent more time showing Amy training with Peter. Overall, I liked the concept of the show and was happy to see someone who obviously loved skating so much get the opportunity to achieve a dream.

The show was okay, but let's not forget a few things...
Those of us that went to the Adult Camp in Hackensack this past June actually got to work with Peter and a few others.
Personally, I thought Amy acted kinda silly!

Anyone know if she will continue to compete in adult events??

I only noticed that one time she did a toe-loop counter-clockwise and the next time she did it clockwise (I think) -- it made me wonder if they had reversed the film, or shown it from the other side, or whatever you call it -- like looking in a mirror, and that they were all actually done counter-clockwise.
I liked the show okay but wanted more of Peter, of course. I could watch HOURS of someone taking a lesson from him... ;)

Hi,
I know the woman who skated in "Into Character". Her name is Andrea, not Amy.
Ultimately I think she really enjoyed the experience of working with Peter tremendously, but because the film is necessarily edited down to only 1/2 hour, there are things that don't come across.
The most important is that although one has the impression that she did nothing but practice skating for the two weeks, in fact she still had to do her regular, extremely demanding job during the whole experience. No time off for TV reality shows!
Second, I had thought she probably had skating & coaching every day from Peter, but in fact the number of hours she had with Peter was about 14 hrs - 7 2-hr on-ice sessions over 2 weeks. That's not that long to learn a program.
Peter was very demanding, cut her no slack - expected Olympic-level effort. She says she worked harder than she ever has before, but couldn't always live up to what he expected. And, the show's producers also put enormous pressure on her to "perform" - because without that, there was no show, and lots of money was being spent...Yes, she cried a few times, but mostly from overwhelming tiredness and frustration at being unable to perform at professional level standards (she is an adult amateur, after all-and not a bad skater at all!)
The day of the final taping (which was at 6 AM!!!) she was overwhelmed by the pressure, but had to go out and skate anyways. And, apparently there were TV wires all over the ice (not showing in the broadcast, obviously) that she had to skate around. Even Peter could not talk them out of that.
She would like to continue skating & perhaps do a real competition, but in the real world, jobs & life sometimes get in the way of those things. She does take a regular lesson each week still, and skates when she can get away from work - and I think work in her case is 12-14 hour days as a rule.
I think the moral of the story here is what looked potentially rather TV-glamorous was hard, demanding work...lots of emotional pressure...much more difficulties than the viewing public gets to see. Still, 2 weeks with Peter T is a gift of a lifetime, and she's glad to have had it.

Thanks for the behind the scenes look at the show. I wish it would have aired for more than just 1/2 hour so we could have seen more of the hard work and details that went into making Andrea's dream a reality.
