The new poll on usfsa.org got me thinking. Skating and gymnastics appeal to a lot of the same people. Just kinda wondering your theories as to why.

For me, I think the floor routines bring out the similarities of skating, e.g., the spinning. I find that since I have problems with my one foot spin, seeing this done in barefoot fashion by the gymnasts, helps me see where exactly I should be (the ball of the foot). Also, the leotards are now more fashionable incorporating sequins and decorative fabrics similar to that found in skating dresses. The music for floor routines has improved a great deal over that which was used during the 70's when all that was available to the gymnasts was tinny piano music. Now, cds/tapes make for more interesting floor routines. These are just some of the similarities of skating I find in gymnastics.

I like how both combine athleticism with art. Diving also does this.
