Good night of skating! Some new competitive programs were debuted and there were mostly sloppy performances, but it's early on still.

My reports were written VERY quickly and a lot of this stuff probably isn't accurate.. I didn't write notes (almost makes it a lost cause with me without notes.. apologies ahead of time!)

Olivia Petire 2nd in juvenile last year, I think- did 2axel, 2sal, 2loop, and I think she fell on a second 2axel. slow music.. but she's a nice skater

Brandon Morz from the USA- did his short program.. 3toe/2toe, 3toe, 2axel.. lots of energy and I heard he has all the triples so he could be right up there

Islam/Lenko did what appeared to be their free dance to Malaguena

Tugba Karademir represents Turkey.. did a show number with a 3sal, possibly cheated, and 2axel. really nice spins though

Ben Ferreira, short program to Aranjuez, possibly The Planets version. 2axel and popped something else. ok program, different look

Heath/Paxton.. show number to some r&r music.. I think she had a fall on a throw 2loop

Jeff Buttle did his long to some jazz music, it sounded like. I don't know what I think yet.. 2axel, fell on 3axel i think.. did 3toe and 3sal but popped some stuff and it looked like his skate was either loose or the lace broke or something.. he showed it when he was done

Jen Robinson did a show number and it looked almost like she hit her face on the ice in a very, very hard fall on 3lutz..they stopped her program at one point but she started again..

Takeshi Honda new SP to Mrvica's grieg piano concerto.. didn't have the jumps but the footwork is really very good

IceMen were next, a group of guys skating synchro who do performances around Canada in order to raise money for breast cancer research, I believe.. they were great!

after intermission.. ryan arnold, justin perdu, mitch islam, and john mattatall did some number to the matrix and then they took off all their hockey equipment to reveal skirts, and then did a number to that.. also pretty funny

Yuna Kim was next.. she looked a little scared and fell on 3toe and popped a 2axel attempt but then did one clean.. slow music but nice spins

Nobunari Oda skated to what sounded like the Mario Brothers theme? LOL.. fell hard on 3lutz, stepped out of a loop, but did do 3 2axels in a row

Findlay/Mattatall did a show number to r&r music as well.. she really emotes.. did throw 2sal I believe

Lesley Hawker did yet another country program.. 2 2axels and a fall on 3toe but nice skating, shes really improved steadily each year

Jeff Buttle did his short program next.. again don't know the music but it sounds kinda dark and gloomy.. 2axel, 3toe, fall 2lutz IIRC

Ben Ferreira.. "the cowboy in me" or something like that.. missed pretty much everything but he looked like he was having fun again.

Joannie Rochette did Paint It Black from last year.. popped sal and toe but did get a 3toe in but then she fell on her footwork

Steve Cousins did the show number he's had for a while with the red pants, good skate. 3flip, 3toe, a few 2axels. i like the program

Takeshi came back and did 'dirty boogie' from brian setzer, another new program from kurt.. ok performance

They had a short tribute to Jen and everyone came out and said thank you.. was nice

Kurt came out and did an old number, sorry I wasn't really paying attention.. they also had something earlier about him in a pro comp from a few years ago when he forgot the program?? i think.. maybe it was the improv ice from 1999 IIRC when he made the program up as he went..

Photos including from after party coming up soon

Thanks for the review, Tony! According to another review of the show from a Kurt mailing list I belong to, his second number was "Ding Dong Daddy," which I really wouldn't consider an "old" program since he skated it just last season. His "improv" number sounded really impressive--apparently he jumped, spinned and did all kinds of impressive footwork while talking to the audience during the whole thing. Now that was something I really would have loved to see! I wonder what music Kurt skated to, though? The other review only said he used music from one of his old short programs. If Kurt skated to the same music he used for his "forgotten" 1997 Ultimate Four SP (I don't know the name of it, but it was upbeat, Latin-sounding music with lots of trumpets and horns in the background), that would be really ironic and a great testament to his sense of humor!

Thanks again, and I can't wait to see the photos! :)

Thanks for sharing your photos, jeb--looks like it was a great show! Unfortunately, I think you have to register with Imagestation in order to see them, but it's definitely worth it! :)

Thanks for the photos, great to see skating photo in the summer.
Kurt looks wonderful; he doesn’t look like just lazing around this summer. :)

jcspkbfan, I didn’t have to register to look at photos.
