Any news on Sasha and her new programs yet? I can't wait for the season to start!

There's nothing official. The only thing we know is that she is going to have a 2:50 sp. Someone also mentioned that Sasha and Robin were looking at scarf patterns so that's a possibility of costume rumors.

I thought the limit was 2:40....didn't Michelle Kwan get a deduction at Worlds for going 2:41?

Or 2:42 - that is true, but apparently there is now an allowance to have the SP last until 2:50 - I have seen quotes from various parties saying that this will allow more MITF's by skaters in the short program. We shall see.

I think it is about time they deducted Michelle Kwan for trying to get away with stuff nobody else could.
I think Sasha will challenge herself this year, and nobody else. She is head and shoulders above the rest of the field. Nobody even comes close.
danibellerika

Head and shoulders in terms of talent, but unfortunately, she's got some ground to make up in the consistency area and like it or not, that makes a big differerence and by that, I'm thinking 2 possible national titles, an olympic medal, a couple world medals, and a world title, but who's counting? She's getting better though at least...

I cannot wait to see what they come up with! I watched my whole season tape of Sasha last night (which includes the other top 2) and noticed how she is pushing everyone...even Arakawa with the Ina Bauer like the one from Sasha's Rach the previous year, and the Sasha's type of side catch spin.
I also decided that Robin's programs are more POWERFUL emotionally, more seamless, perhaps more emphasis on whole body movements so while I adore Tarasova's programs for Sasha, I also adore Robin's.
Sasha will do well under the COP...

How many Robin programmes has she had? She kept Malaguena and Romeo & Juliet (both Tarasova) from 03 for the 04 season, and her LP was originally Tarasova but was changed by Robin. Has Robin done her any other programmes other than the second Swan Lake? (I don't get to see COI or anything, which is why I ask. Unless you've seen Sasha's new programmes with Robin, or something.)

Amazing can be subjective, but if it's Morosov(who doesn't impress me much anymore), I heard that she dumped him. And I also heard that ROBIN indeed is now making the programs and her and sasha were in a room listening to music jotting down moves etc so it's kinda hard to know what to believe until Sasha finally spills it. I'm just depserately desperately hoping that it isn't what I've heard it possibly could be(my lips are sealed on that note).

It would be awesome if Sasha was working with Lori Nichol, or Oksana Bauil. I think Sasha would be amazing doing Lori's work, and do it better justice than some of Lori's previous pupils *cough, cough*.
Please PM me with any information.

What outstanding stuff has Nichol done lately? Seems she peaked with Michelle Kwan, did a bit of a miracle on Tim G., and then didn't produce too many star programs.

You can piece this one together if you take a mostly false (but partially true) rumor that was on one of the message boards a couple of weeks ago and extrapolate.

Some of Lori's previous pupils are Olympic medalists, e.g. S&Z
Michelle Kwan? She has 2 Olympic medals, 5 world gold, 3 world silver? and a world bronze
Tara was briefly Lori's pupil and she is an Olympic gold medalist.
I say some of Lori's previous pupils are doing well, considering their absolute achievement, and age adjusted achievement. They certainly did some of the best justice to Lori's work. IMHO, much better (in term of age adjusted achievement) than cough cough eh..... ;) some other skaters as suggested to be Lori's future pupils.

I too thought Lori maybe thought she could overcome some things with some skaters (I do not mean Michelle) that she couldn't.
Her transformation of Michelle was legendary, but it does't always work like that, I guess.

I was referring to the fact that Robin considerably changed Sasha's LP last season after becoming Sasha's coach late in the season...
Anyway, this stuff about scarf patterns and rumors and all...its TOOOO tempting.
Someone, give us more hints! We have to have something fun to do till September!
With the scarf thing, I'm thinking is she going to bleed (cuz I don't think she would go skating around carrying a scarf)? If so, then I'm thinking Tosca or Madama Butterfly or "in what does a woman get shot"?
Well, for an exhibition number, seh might have a flowing scarf...I'll take that back. :frus:

I can't help it - but this 'looking at scarf patterns' just reminds me of that silly movie - Romy and Michelle's Reunion - or whatever it's called. At the end, after a bit of enlightening conversation  they say to each other "let's go fold scarves..."

Alright then. Well I wish they would update her stats soon on isu.org b/c as of 3/27 Morozov is said to be her choreographer.

In Sasha's latest journal entry, she states that everything is finished both programs and costumes. They are just putting on some finishing touches.

One thing is for sure. She looks as if she wants to get the most out of the CoP. I wonder why she isn't mentioning the choreographer though and I wonder when she is just going to spill what she's skating to and put my fears to rest.

I don't think that it could be Lori Nichol --- she is already working with Jenny Kirk and Fumie Suguri and Nichol has always been super loyal with the people she works with. I can't imagine that she would be working with 3 major contenders. Also, there hasn't been any news to suggest that Sasha spent time in Canada in the last couple of months and Lori Nichol doesn't travel too often to work with skaters (I remember reading in article where Michelle mentioned that it was becoming increasingly difficult to travel to Canada to work with Nichol)
I wonder who the choreographer is.......

Ick no! I really hope none of the music rumours I've heard for Sasha are true because I haven't liked any of them. Besides I don't think Sasha would want to skate to music that would compare her to Michelle Kwan any more than she is compared to her already. I am personally hoping Sasha will find music that hasn't been used often or at all. It'd be more interesting I think. What was wrong with Michelle's Salome though? That one of her best programs especially compared to Tosca.

LOL..you are going with the previously mentioned "scarves shopping" into a veil, right, like Oksana's professional program (I forget the name of that one, but she wore purple pants, and had a mask/veil on).
Salome could have a veil, too, I guess, did in real life.

Agreed. I am no Kwan fan, but Salome doesn't even need to be touched again after she's done it (that is one of the very few programs that I liked from Michelle), just like Turnadot doesn't need to be touched again(that was the fear from the earlier post, but since the bag has been opened, I can talk about it). S&Z's version has a special place in my heart that no other version will match or surpass. There are SOOOOO many beautiful pieces of music out there that it's a shame to hear the same stuff over and over again.

Hello,
I've been trying to figure out who Sasha's supposed 'choreographer who isn't Robin' is, and have had many reasons to believe it to be, as one poster suggested, Nina Petrenko. Here's why I am guessing this:
*Sasha never mentioned going anywhere to have her programs done, which she probably would've done. Nina is right in her location, in fact, didn't the Petrenkos move to New Jersey?
*Sylvia Fontana's at Sasha's rink and her programs are generaly done by Nina. If she can come to the rink for Sylvia she can make it for Sasha, too.
*Sasha stayed with the Petrenkos while commuting to NJ at the beginning working with Robin. She obviously knows them, then, and perhaps Robin set it up, meaning she knows them, also.
*Many posters have said they have Sasha's choreographer as a coach/choreographer. This most likely rules out Lori Nichol or anyone like that because they are very selective in who they work with. Also, Lori Nichol doesn't coach.
Just speculating , but it does kind of fit, eh? ;)

Nope, Petrenkos very much still there except for Victor. He left, but not to New Jersey. I have no idea what Sasha's music is. I wouldn't tell if I did, but I don't, so I'm of no help. I'm sure I'll love it though, because I always love her choices, despite how overdone they may be. I too, hope it is not Turandot. But I doubt it. And if I were to guess, I'd truly believe Robin was choreographing. I mean, it'd make sense. Or maybe Sasha is choreographing the bulk of it- she's done that before. We'll know soon. :)

Well by now it shouldn't be a suprise. Sasha almost next to never does anything that hasn't been out there before which is why I feared it could be Turnadot. I'd have been more excited had it been something original, but I don't expect that from her so now all that's left to do is see what happens with the programs themselves.
I do firmly believe though that there is just too much beautiful music out there to keep hearing the same stuff over and over again.

I think a skaters level of comfort with a piece of music, combined with well thought out strategy is more important than digging up some unknown piece of music. I agree that originality is great, but I think it's more important that Sasha is happy and is inspired by her selections.
danibellerika
08-12-2004, 11:03 AM
Yeah, but it would be nice to see a top level skate go out there and skate to something different. I think that could inspire others to do it as well. They'd actually look around and find great stuff and not just keep to a certain pool of music that's around.

I like both pieces of music (love Nutcracker). But I could name two or three skates that I already count among all-time fave performances using the Tchaikovsky.
I was hoping the Robin Wagner who got Sarah to try Daphnis & Bayadere would have more influence on Sasha's choices. :( Sasha needs to get out of her comfort zone. (I keep saying something like a "jazzy," modern-dance-y look would suit her very well.)
Was it only a few years ago when at least a few ladies were doing unique, signature programs. :P

If Cohen is really using Dark Eyes, this will be the third time she has used the music. She used it as her short program as a novice in 1997-1998 and her free skate as a senior in 2000-2001.

That's not so unusual for skaters to reuse music they like particularly. Kwan's used East of Eden several times. Besides Dark Eyes would probably work better now that she's older and skates with more maturity.

Didn't Jenny Kirk just skate to The Nutcracker last season? Or season before? I hope there won't be any comparisons. I really wanted to see Sasha stretch and do something nobody else has done.
