Does anyone know where I can find them?? Normally only the higher levels are posted on these boards, but I also have a few friends skating in the lower levels, and I am curious to see how they did as well! ;)

I'll try to post a link to Unseen Skaters result reports:

Hope that works!

Sk8er1964 and I had a fun day watching the finals. We didn't take notes, but it seemed most of the skater's programs were very new................and still needed a lot of practice..........especially the senior ladies. Today, the novice ladies clearly outdid them. One of the Czsisny girls (Amber?) needs to go home and start over again. She is skating to Swan Lake for her LP, and it is an obvious Sasha clone. She is a lovely skater, and very flexible, but the Sasha admiration was carried a bit to far IMO. I can't wait to see the senior men as the season progresses. One of the highlights was Rohene Ward doing footwork into an axel in the opposite direction, more footwork, then a jump in the right direction (can't remember what that was...........just a wow at the entire thing), and one of the novice ladies opening with a solid 2loop/2loop/2loop sequence.

Yep, it was a lot of fun. There was one young man, a Novice, named Grant from St Clair Shores -- watch out for him! He has that "something special" that could get him to the top, IMO.

Was it Amber with the Sasha program? I can't remember (she skated to Swan Lake, did the Sasha spins, the Sasha spirals, the Sasha side kick thing) - beautiful skater, bad program. The other sister got waaaay too close to the boards too many times, and it really messed up her jumps. The last skater, don't remember her name, was very solid with her jumps and a nice all-around skater. However, as a group, the senior ladies didn't have the best day.

The last warm-up group of the senior men were great. I can see why Uncle Dick was so impressed with Rohene Ward. He skated with energy and innovation. Great spins, great footwork, but some jump problems. Definite crowd pleaser. I liked Ryan Jahnke's program too, but he had trouble with the 3axel and one other jump. Parker Pennington was good, as was Jordan Brauniger (sp) who won. Jordan was not quite as charismatic as Jahnke and Ward, but more technically sound. It was a very solid program.

So, here I am standing in line at the snack bar to get a water and some popcorn, and I pay and turn around. I see two young men in line behind me, one who I am pretty sure is Rohene Ward, and the other who looks really familiar. It wasn't until I was back in the rink that I realized it was Ryan Jahnke. I'm not a starstruck kind of gal, but it was kind of wierd seeing folks you've seen on national tv standing in line at the snack bar!

It was Alissa that did Swan Lake, not Amber. I was there watching too and it was fun!

Speaking of seeing skaters you see on TV, did you see Larissa Spielberg? She is just adorable in person, so tiny!

Ryan Janke once skated at an open skating session that I was at, to warm up before a performance. I just kept staring at him 8O :)

FWIW, Alissa Czisny's "Swan Lake" is not a ripoff of Sasha Cohen's version. It's the same program she was using all last season, and IIRC she debuted her version months before Sasha first showed hers. And she has also had those extreme flexibility moves in her programs for years and years now.

That is correct. I have been an Alissa fan for years and was always awed by her flexible moves and her gorgeous spins. And I do think she debuted it at Skate Detroit last year which was before Cambell's where Sasha did hers.

dr. frog, do you happen to know when the Czisny's switched to the Detroit Skating Club instead of St Clair Shores? I was suprised to hear that because I didn't know.

For those who are not in the know, it sure looks like a Sasha rip-off. If it were me (and yes, I know it isn't), I'd ditch the program and come up with something new.

Ditto. There are just too many similarities for it to be a total coincidence. I'm sure the music probably was, but the moves were all very a'la Sasha. Actually, with her flexibility, I'm sure she could come up with some of her own signature moves, and that would be a lot more fun to see.

I'm not dr. frog, but the Czisny's primary coach, Julie Berlin, relocated from St. Clair Shores to the Detroit Skating Club earlier this season.

Agreed. I feel really bad for Alissa, because it's almost like the cheerleaders in "Bring It On", but she needs a new program for this year. I have seen too many bad Carmens, Malaguenas, Sheherizades, etc. at the lower levels, and all I think is "now Katarina/Kristi/Michelle did this _so_ much better."

Congrats to Taylor and MC!

Thanks Sylvia. That must be the reason why other SCS skaters switched, too (Rosinski, Sierens).

One thing people don't always consider -- it can be expensive for skaters to get new programs every season and I've known of skaters who don't (or can't) mainly for that reason. I don't know if this could have been why Alissa skated her SP and FS programs from last season at Skate Detroit; however, I believe Amber debuted 2 new programs there.

I didn't see the SP's, but I did think that Amber's LP had a lot of promise. (Glad I now know now who was who :) ) The big problem that she had, and maybe it's because the program is new, is that she was jumping into the boards. It was actually scary - one time I thought she was going to hit the boards mid-air, but she managed to pull it in and avoid that (but blew the jump).

As far as the expense goes - if you are paying hundreds of dollars a month for lessons and ice, and thousands a year for skates, wouldn't it make sense to spend the necessary money to get a really good program? Because that's where all the other investments really pay off.

Actually there's an easy way to tell the Czisny twins apart on the ice -- Alissa is a clockwise rotator and Amber is CCW. :)

I spent the day at the Chicago Open (yuk on fs, yay on interp), watching a bunch of final rounds, and only heard one Swan Lake and no Carmens. I was shocked! Really, Swan Lake is way overused as skating music, so I'm not fond of it at all. However, this year is the worst year to use it, since Arakawa and Cohen both used it, so I would be concerned about the judges subconciously (of course not intentionally) comparing Alissa to either champion.

As for the expense, how much is it to get a program professionally choreographed? Being an adult, I don't really see a need for one personally, but of course at the senior national level, it's a whole different ballgame....

SkateGuard,

Do you recall any Juv.-Sr. results from the final rounds at the Chicago Open?

SkateGuard,

Do you recall any Juv.-Sr. results from the final rounds at the Chicago Open?

I'm one of many who regularly read the postings on this Board and since I attended the Chicago Open, I thought I 'd finally come out of the woodwork and post some info on this competition. I'm just a "skating mom" however so can't offer too much info on the technical content! I've also never posted before, much less written a summary on a competition, but seeing as the host club hasn't posted any information on the competition, I thought I'd try! I hope Skate Guard does as well.

There were approximately 300 skaters, the majority from the Chicago area, although there were also participants from Louisville, Kansas City, and a number of Wisconsin clubs. There are no Basic Skills events, only Beginner through Senior, as well as Adult. The largest number of skaters were in the Beginner through Preliminary levels. The competition referee was Dann Krueger and most of the judges were from the Chicago or Minneapolis area - a few exceptions included Scott Cormier of Providence and Sara Kastner of New York.

Here are results for the Juvenile through Senior events:

Free Skate - Saturday
Since there were two groups each at Juvenile and Intermediate, the top three skaters advanced to a final round held Sunday morning. There were also final rounds for Pre-Pre, Preliminary, Pre-Juv and Open Juvenile. Since there was only a single FS group each for Novice - Senior, there were no final rounds for these levels.

Juvenile - Group A
1. Dee Dee Leng DuPage
2. Jillian Addie Mann DuPage
3. Agnes Zawadzki DuPage
4. Sydney Kolodzie Wagon Wheel
5. Dana Richards DuPage
6. Shelby Wyrwa Skokie Valley
7. Aoi Shimomura Skokie Valley
8. Emily Killacky DuPage
9. Sarah Marshinski DuPage

Juvenile - Group B
1. Meaghan Foley Northern Ice
2. Ashley Hentges Line Creek
3. Katie Cushing DuPage
4. Christina Morgan DuPage
5. Clarissa Fiore Wagon Wheel
6. Elizabeth Harb FSC of the Quad Cities
7. Katie Soraghan Chicago FSC
8. Jennifer Lemminger Kettle Moraine FSC
9. Shelby Smith Line Creek

In general, the top juvenile skaters at this competition exhibited good speed and jumps through double lutz. Dee Dee and Jillian both had double axels in their programs; Dee Dee landed hers. Meaghan Foley had a double lutz/double toe/double loop combo in her program.

Intermediate - Group A
1. Karen Augustyn DuPage
2. Emily Mayer DuPage
3. Kate Vegh Louisville SA
4. Emily Boxer Skokie Valley
5. Jessica Schubert DuPage
6. Katherine O'Brien Skokie Valley
7. Ashley Cary Heart of IL
8. Aimee Waring Northern Ice
9. Shannon Marshinski DuPage

Intermediate - Group B
1. Natalie Lyman Skokie Valley
2. Maggie Sobilo Skokie Valley
3. Lauren Singer Skokie Valley
4. Lyssie Fischer DuPage
5. Dominique Giordano Line Creek
6. Amanda White Rye FSC
7. Leandra Gonzeles Southport
8. Bethany Koudelka IL Valley FSC

Natalie had a great skate with a double axel and triple salchow - great speed and bright yellow and hot pink dress to go with her Caribbean-style music. Unfortunately, she didn't skate as well in final rounds; she seemed like the strongest Intermediate skater at the competition. Karen (black dress with hot pink upper) skated a secure, clean (as I recall) program to win the first group.

Novice
1. Maria Papas DuPage
2. Katherine Patke Line Creek
3. Deanna Quagliata DuPage
4. Melanie Wittenborn Northern Ice
5. Rachel Riske DuPage
6. Alexandra Zarecky Skokie Valley
7. Rebecca Limminger Kettle Moraine
8. Heather Massie Wagon Wheel
9. Kayley Grant Eastern Iova FSC
(Alyssa Vrdoljak and Chelsey Walker scratched)

No triples were completed by the Novices; Maria Papas skates with lots of speed and energy - great spins and pretty big jumps from such a small skater! Katherine Patke is a smooth, calm skater with big, high jumps. Both girls did double axel - double toe combos. Deanna has nice jumps (although I don't remember a clean double axel?) and very smooth skating.

Junior
1. Megan O'Leary - fell on at least one double axel, can't remember if she landed or tried another; landed a triple sal/double toe combo (but maybe with a cheat?)
(Lane Walker, also scheduled to skate, scratched so Megan had no competition.)

Senior
1. Nicole Ward DuPage
2. Lila-Joy Arnold DuPage
3. Ashley Kristich DuPage

The jumps just weren't there for Ashley during the freeskate.

Juvenile - Final Rounds (Sunday)
1. Dee Dee Leng
2. Jillian Addie Mann
3. Agnes Zawadzki
4. Meghan Foley
5. Katie Cushing
6. Ashley Hentges

Intermediate Final Rounds
1. Karen Augustyn
2. Maggie Sobilo
3. Natalie Lyman
4. Emily Mayer
5. Lauren Singer
6. Katie Vegh

In general, no one skated as well in the final rounds as they did in the qualifying groups on Saturday. Natalie popped her triple salchow and fell (or two footed) her double axel attempt. Karen's program was secure again.
The top three winners in each final round group received hand-blown glass bowls as their trophies; very unusual, and a nice change from typical trophies!

I apologize if I've mis-identified any jumps, or mixed up placements, etc. I"d welcome clarifications and corrections!!!

Does anyone know why Natalie Mecher withdrew after the SP at Skate Detroit? Is she still battling her injuries from last year?

Thank you jaskates...I don't really pay attention to the juv-senior skates when I'm busy competing exept for the kids I personally know. They had the adult fs, then the final rounds, then adult interp, so I was pretty busy. :)

Yes, all of the results look right, and the tech content as well, from what I saw. (We watched a couple of pre-pres and went to breakfast, then came back in time to see the juv and intermediate we knew.) My overall take was that the top skaters skipped Chicago and went to Skate Detroit.

The only results I have are the adults, and you probably don't care about us old ladies..... :)
