Hi everyone! This is Aaron. I'm staying with Pupiczech and I can't seem to log off her account so that I can get onto my own, so I'm just using her's to post my report.

---------------

Here are the senior short program details. I worked all night Wednesday into Thursday morning until 7am, went home and showered, and then left for Detroit without any sleep. So I was having trouble staying awake all day long. Hopefully I didn't make too many mistakes and if I did, I'm sorry. And because of that, I'm heading to bed so I can only get the senior reports up today. I have notes on the Novice Men's short program that I'll try to get posted sometime before the weekend is up.

Senior Men's Short Program

Ben Miller; 3a, 3z/3t (X on the 3t), ftwk into 3f, flying sit spin (8- a little bit too slow), straightline ftwk, sit/sit(8/8), camel/sit/sandhu/back sit/back scratch (full number required). He had blank pants with red sparkles all over them and I believe either a red or black shirt with really billowy sleeves. Quite possibly a Mishin decision. ;) I can't remember his music. He did a circular step sequence somewhere in there that I don't think was closed off.

Jeff Franklin; 3f/3t (not much speed on 3t, but clean), 2a, 3z (with a bit of a pause from the footwork), sit/sit(5/4), straightline ftwk, death drop(8), circular footwork, camel/sit/upright variation/back camel/back sit/ back cross foot/back scratch.

Joe Knazek; straightline ftwk, 2a(hand down), single lutz with a turn into a 2t, sit/sit(9/8), ftwk with a pause into a 2f, death drop(7?-8?), circular ftwk, camel/sit/back sit/back upright variation.

Rohene Ward; flying camel(8), 3a, camel/sit/sandhu/back sit/back cross foot, 3f/3t, sit/sit(9/7), circular ftwk in a clockwise circle in which he stumbled briefly, ftwk into 2z, straightline footwork. He skated his Michael Jackson short program from last season and really had the audience into it until the stumble in the footwork. From then on, he seemed to lose focus and the program suffered as a result. He was landing 3axels effortlessly in the practice earlier today, as well as some of his other jumps. Also saw him land a 3loop in the clockwise direction, although it took him a number of tries to get it. Still amazing though.

Matt Savoie; (He's skating to last year' short program again this season)flying camel (6 whoops, he seemed to lose his balance at the end), 3a, 3f/3t, circular footwork, sit/sit(7/6), ftwk into 3z, diagonal ftwk more from corner to corner than last season, camel/side sit/back camel/back canon/back upright position with leg held/back scratch. He was doing pretty much all of his jumps in practice earlier today with very little effort at least he made it look that way. Didn't see any quads attempts (although I didn't watch him the entire practice).

Kurt Fromknecht; circular ftwk, 3a(X), 3f/2t, sit/sit(8/8), ftwk into 3z(2ft), camel/back camel/back sit/back scratch, serpentine ftwk, flying camel(8).

Chris Mabee; 3a/1t(he was soooo thrilled when he landed the 3axel that he lost his concentration and the result was a toe pick that slipped it appeared on the 2toe or 3toe attempt; still a great 3axel though), flying camel(I counted 7 ½ and noted it traveled some), straightline footwork, ftwk with a bit of a pause into a 2z, 2a, sit/sit(10/8), circular ftwk a little shallow in it's pattern, camel/sit/sandhu/back sit/back scratch. I was really impressed to see him land the triple axel considering he didn't even attempt it last summer here at Skate Detroit.

Apparently Parker Pennington injured himself in the practice session earlier today (he seemed to be awfully tight on his jumps) and had to pull out. Matt Lind was here as well and practiced this afternoon, but I he too has an injury and decided to pull out after a somewhat shaky practice session. Not sure about Scott Smith.

Senior Ladies Short Program
Group A

Tugba Karademir; 1f, 3l(X), layback(10), back spiral into 2a, diag ftwk, flying camel(9), camel/sandhu/back sit/back camel with leg caught and held (i.e. like Sarah Hughes has done before), RBO/RFO/LF?(looked mostly to be on the flat) spiral sequence.

Viktoria Volchkova; 2a (landed right on the piano beat), 2z/2t, ftwk into 2f, spiral sequence of RFO/LFO(edge was a little wobbly)/LFI, layback(9; the back really wasn't bent all that much), straightline ftwk, flying camel(6), combo spin with a slightly off balance exit.

Jennifer Park; running 3's into a 3loop (nice lift), hard fall on the 3f, camel/sit/layback/and a number of variations on positions for the back portion of the spin, diag steps, 2a, layback(10; fast with a good position), spiral sequence; LFO Kerrigan/RFO/RBO's Y in serpentine pattern, butterfly into back sit (traveled a bit).

Mari Yamaguchi; layback (>10), 3s(2ft & 3turn)/2loop(with a 3turn), ftwk into 3t(2ft, under-rotated, and 3turn), spiral sequence of RBO/RFO/LFO, straightline ftwk, 2a(2ft & X), combo spin.

Chanelle Sherry; 3s(2ft)/2t, spirals RBO/?/LBO, 2a, layback(4), circ ftwk, 3loop (under-rotated and something else but I can't read my writing), nor can I read my writing for the remaining elements of her program; sorry.

Jacqueline Pusztay- lay(10), 2f(slight 2ft?), 2a(X), LFO-Y/ *sigh again I can't read my handing writing, flying camel(6), camel/sit/back camel/back sit. She was behind her music at the end.

Christine Semmler; LFO/RBI/RBO/LFI spirals, 2a, camel/sit/layback, can't read hand writing, layback (10), 3f, circular ftwk, combination spin.

1.Jennnifer Park
2.Viktoria Volchkova
3.Tugba Karadamir
4.Christine Sammier
5.Mari Yamaguchi
6.Chanelle Sherry
7.Jacqueline Pusztay

Group B

Alissa Czisny; flying camel(9), 3z/2t, steps into 3f(X), layback (10) with a great arch, good speed, leg positioned extremely high, and centering done well), 2a, circ steps, RFO/LFO-Y to normal spiral postion/LBO, camel/sit/back camel/back donut.

I missed the next skater's name it's either Christie Jaszewski or Katie Laughner; she wore a green skirt, flying sit(8?), 2a(big spring but a step out), layback(8), circ ftwk, 2f, LFO/LFI/RBO Kerrigan, 3s(X), camel/sit/layback/back sit/back upright variation.

Candice Gutmann- ftwk with pause into 2z, 3t with a tight landing and some turns into a 2t, flying sit (10), waxel(X), layback (8 or 9), LFO/?/?/RBO; Y, combo spin that started off with a camel that she missed the hook and had to put her hand to the ice. The spin included a camel/sit/back sit and I didn't see any upright position.

Halie Bojovic; layback (8?), 3t(X), 2a(2ft), camel/sit/layback/back camel/back sit, circular ftwk, ftwk into 2z(X), LFO Kerrigan/LFI catch foot/RBO/LBI, flying camel (8).

Danielle Lazanby; 3s(2ft)/2t(2ft), layback(8), 2a, flying camel (8), ftwk with a bit of a pause into the 3t(X), LFO/LFI/RBI/LFO Kerrigan, circular step pattern that seemed somewhat small, camel/layback/back sit.

Lindsey Weber; 3z(2ft and turnout)/2t, layback with a straight leg(traveled some), ftwk with a bit of a pause into a 3t, RBO/RFO/LFO Kerrigan spiral, a combination spin that didn't have a good hook on the camel at the beginning, but she pulled it together and centered reasonably well the sit/back sit/back upright variation, diag steps didn't quite make it from corner to corner, 2a, flying camel(8). A decent job considering she hasn't had much in the way of competition since before her injury.

Kelsey Drewel; 1a, 1z, layback (15), LFO-Y/RFI/LFI with a switch over to the LFO/RBO, ftwk into 2t (step out), flying camel (7?), ftwk, combination spin. The missed double axel at the beginning of the program really seemed to cause everything to fall apart.

Group B:
1)Alissa Czisny
2)Lindsey Weber
3)Danielle Lazenby
4)Kelsey Drewel
5.Halie Bojovic
6.Katie LAughner
7.Candice Gutmann

*faints* - then - THANK YOU!!!

Aaron - we need you at more competitions - with notes like that, its like I was there myself to watch it. And I probably could tell you less had I been there, than reading your notes!

Thank you Aaron! A couple questions, though

Is Matthew Lind skating as a senior this year? Thought he was a junior?

No mention of Katie Lee - I thought she was listed as a competitior. Any idea of why she didn't skate?

Kelsey Drewel - another skater that I thought was a junior this year - did she move up to senior?

Any other details on how Vika skated? I mean was it a new SP or old, if new what kind of music/choreo does it have?

I guess she is still in "off-season" form, judging from the jump content. Did she pop her triples or just went for doubles?

How about overall impression from her skate?

Thanks a lot for the report. I was thrilled to hear what Savoie is doing great. Pass him best wishes from a Russian fan, if you have a chance to talk to him.

Anna.

Thank you Aaron! A question: What was Webber's injury?

I can answer a couple of these questions. Katie Lee was on the roster, but unfortunately she did not skate. I was very disappointed, as I was in the fact that Amber Czisny wasn not there, either.

Don't know what was up with Volchkova. She looked all smiles with Oleg during her off-ice warmups. She did not warm up (on-ice) a single triple, not did it look like she was even trying one. People in the stands around me were a bit confused. Then in the SP she just did the doubles. Don't know if it was planned. Maybe she thought she did not need triples against that field? I couldn't say. Her performance was typical Volchkova - very liitle to no expression. She took a long time to leave the ice after the performance (skated very slowly to the gate). The dress looked like one from last year, but I can not remember what her SP was last year, so I don't know if it was the same one. I did not recognize the music.

I saw it. Looks like a new program as it was not Moonlight Sonata. It has very pretty piano music that builds toward the end. It reminded me of Angela Nikodinov's s/p's music from last season. She started out well, with a nice 2A from very few steps, and had some interesting arm movements that seemed to express the music. After the 2L/2T she kind of fell off. I think she isn't quite in competition form yet and looked a bit winded at the end.

Overall, the program has potential if she would "sell it." Of course, this was probably the first time she performed it, so it should improve with time.

Cheers!

Thanks for the info.

Second-guessing for her, I'd rather believe she does not consider this event to be a Competition. May be more like tryout to get a feedback from judges regarding the program overall, if she tried the new one, of course.

Her last year SP was to Moonlight Sonata and, as far as I remember (ending pose: http://skaters.narod.ru/Ladies/01ts-lsp-vv01.jpg)

[quote:e39990a985="Schmeck"]Is Matthew Lind skating as a senior this year? Thought he was a junior?[/quote:e39990a985]

Matt competed as a junior at nationals but is definitely moving up. I think he's already passed his senior test. Considering that he's already 19, I think it makes plenty of sense even if he did only have one year in juniors.

[quote:e39990a985]Kelsey Drewel - another skater that I thought was a junior this year - did she move up to senior?[/quote:e39990a985]

Kelsey is also moving up--I'm pretty sure she's passed her senior test.

As for the comment about Volchkova not considering this a real "competition"--I'm quite sure Jennifer Park does, and I bet she'll be happy to brag that she beat a top ten Olympian in her group even if it was a sub-par performance. :) Good for her, and I'm glad to hear she's skating well again!

Jenny's been skating very well in practice this summer. She is now being coached by Audrey Weisiger and Rob Schupp (who also coaches Tommy Steenberg in novice men).
