Changing the rules that govern qualifying competitions in the US requires the approval of Governing Council, which won't meet until next May. Nobody has really said anything yet about how they'd implement CoP at lower test levels and at smaller competitions where they can't afford to bring in all the computer equipment and technicians that the ISU system demands -- it may end up being a multi-year project to phase it in and retrain judges in the new system.

eeeeeesh...why can't they just go and see how many 6.0's each skater get's and not have to worry about leaving room for more and get it over with.

de Frog, computer equipment is not needed to judge with the CoP system. At the Skate Canada Adult National Skating Clinic, SC told us that it is a really easy system to judge with and that it can be done with paper and pencil. No computers are needed. It's only at the international events that they use the computers so they can get the response of the judges up faster for the audiences at the rink and at home watching TV. It's about TV using computers. Most events are not televised and don't need computers for the judges to record their marks.

Yes, but using paper and pencil will not only be extrememly tedious, but also very easy to mess up. I work in a high school, and tutor in math. There are so many times when I couldn't tell if someone's 5 was a 5 or a 6 - a 7 sometimes looks like a 1, etc. With all the numbers being used, how many math mistakes are going to be made, and how many hours is it going to take to add up, average etc. all of the scores? How many people, do they have the time to check their work? Will someone else 'correct' it?

I just don't see CoP as being a practical solution at the lower levels of competitions unless the national organization is financially able to help get computers and trained techs to every competition.

Isn't paper used under the 6.0 system as well...I know it certainly is at the lower levels of competition, which I have seen with my own eyes?

I think this will seriously disadvantage our skaters in international compeittion, keeping the 6.0 system, when the rest of the world is on the COP, so I just cannot easily accept that.

As for the legalities, they could hold an emergency meeting...I know most of these people are probably volunteers, but they could even hold a phone conference on this one issue. It happens all the time in far more complex situations in business etc.

This is such a shame
Code of points is much better
Even on paper

The system really,
works quite well with no adding
machines to do work

Canada will use
code of points for nationals
for skaters, it's good.

For the club level
accounting is not harder
than it was before

It's been tested and,
it works quite well even at,
the lowest levels
