Could someone enlighten me on how skaters are inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame? The only thing I am sure of is that said skater must be retired from eligible skating for 5 years in order to be considered for induction. Is it done like the Baseball Hall of Fame, which I think is voted on by selected sports writers (correct if wrong please), members of the FS Hall of Fame, or some other process?
If it is based on a 5 year time period since last competed in an eligible skating event, how would some skaters of today get elected? You could conceivably be "eligible" the rest of your life provided you don't compete in a non-sactioned event. For example (note, I said e-x-a-m-p-l-e people, let's not go spreading rumors! ): let's pretend Sarah Hughes competes next year, wins a National and World title, then decides to give up skating to go to college and move into another career, having never competed in a non-sactioned event. Does she still become eligible after 5 years since her last skating event?
