wow! my next question is this. many skaters have suffered injuries from pushing to far too fast. some because of "inappropriate" nutritional practices.
i am interested in sc's nutritional and physical off-ice training practices that permit her to train and (almost) land a quad without injury.
if she would share her nutritional and physical training "secrets" it would benefit many skaters at all levels striving to achieve their personal best.

Well...her web site says some of what she eats.
Personally...I think a lot of it is having good tech and knowing how to land softly. Also, she is known to do less reptitions of triples in practice than the Japanese skaters, who do them like crazy. I think that might have something to do with it...

:?: That's quite a statement. Most MEN can't do them.

I myself don't want to see women landing quads, if they are so shaky/barely landed/sloppy as the clip of Sasha doing one. I know that if the ladies do end up doing these regularly in competitions then we'd have to go through the painful phase of really lousy ones until someone gets good enough to do a decent one, but I don't think it's a good trend.

There's enough shaky/barely landed/sloppy triple jumps out there as well so I'm not getting your point. Men land quads even worse than that if they land it at all. Not to mention, this is the only filmed one(besides that other one where she two footed) of her. Many who have seen her practice it have said she's landed it just fine. We don't know what we're going to see after she works on it again. I think it's exciting in itself to see people challenging themselves.

Most skaters would love to have such a shakey triple! That is a very nice quad. She is even on a crowded session!

How tough is doing the quad on the body? If women start going for it will there be a spike in injuries? Just curious.

I believe that Sasha doesn't do as many jumps as others(like the Japanese) so it's not as much wear and tear on the body. Technique can also play a role. With bad tech, more wear and tear comes I'd assume. Luckily, she doesn't have underrotation problems so she doesn't have to do the revolutions so much.

I swear I thought the title of this thread was "Sasha Cohen's Dead" - and I just about fell over.
Whew.
Yes, I believe Sasha is pushing the sport technically. She's not the only one but I do believe she has the potential to combine a quad with a stunning presentation. I just hope her coach doesn't remove any more chorey in favor of jumps. Her Worlds LP was pale.

In an interview, Tim G. said that the quad was a matter of technical near perfection, not a matter of more strength. There are lots of things that can go wrong in a jump, and with the quad, there is less room for them to go wrong is all.

Sasha is very physically strong but also very tiny.
That may help her to get around her jumps and spins.

Yes this is so true and hopefully she gets the quad...she works so hard and I think she deserves it! It would be a perfect way for her to start her competitive season next year.!!

I really have a good feeling about Sasha this year. I think it's going to be her year. I think she'll be landing the quad and blowing everyone away. She is going to be unbeatable again. Let's keep those fingers crossed. Go Sashie!!
