I've been to the website and everything but I was wondering if anyone could explain this better. In addition, is anyone going to the event? If so, would you be willing to post how Kurt Fromknecht does? He's from my hometown and I emailed him for a while. Thanks!

This is a new event for Professional skaters. It is comprised of several different competition events which allow a team of Professionals to put their best foot forward to accumulate points - in the end, the most points win. For example they would enter their best spinner in the spin event, etc. There are also events that the entire team is required to compete in. The competition begins on Friday, June 4, 2004 and continues on Saturday, June 5 at the Lakeland Center in Lakeland, Florida. There are also two shows one Saturday, June 5 at 8:00 PM and another on Sunday, June 6 at 4:00 PM. A press day is scheduled for Thursday, June 3, 2004. Check it out for yourself: www.mlfskating.com
I do know that originally they attempted to open the event to eligible skaters with an ISI sanction that was eventually pulled. US Figure Skating would not sanction the event. It is really too bad that US Figure Skating can't find a way to endorse an event that is going to put money into the hands of eligible skaters who are struggling to pay their training bills!
I hope this event is successful. What we need right now are MORE EVENTS in skating not less! Maybe if they do well, they will be allowed to open it to eligible skaters next year!
I am going to try to check it out, since Lakeland is only about an hour and a half from where I am. I have to see if I can get Friday off of work.
If I do, I will definitely let you know how Kurt does.

One of the skaters who is competing at this event was skating at my rink during ticket ice of which I was on when there was this bad storm today. She was skating to some horror flick thing. Any way, I had put her CD in before the lightning took out our power and when the power came back on, she, a coach and myself (we were the only ones on the ticket ice) heard her music come back on. She was freaked out by it but then we all broke out in laughter because of it.
Did you know that many pro skaters when they compete skate on a smaller than regulation size ice pad? Yeah, the pro skater could only use the width of the arena and from one end to the second blue line. Makes for a hard way to fit things it. Her pro technical program is only a bit over a minute long.
Anyway, because I have Victoria Day off, I can skate on the ticket ice again and see her. We're friends.

Results, Photos (more to come) and TV Schedule is online at www.MLFSKating.com
I got to go on Friday. It was nice to see some of the skaters I haven't seen in a while and some that I haven't seen before. The format was pretty interesting, too. A nice change from the same old thing.
Daisy Smurf,
Unfortunately I got there late and didn't see much of Kurt. His team was the first group to perform and didn't advance to the next round. However, what little I did see of his skating was very good; he seemed to still be in good shape and didn't have any mistakes that I could see. I saw him skate in the add on event where the competitors were all competing by performing the same elements, so he wasn't doing an actual individual program to his own music. Sorry I don't have a more detailed report. :(
