View Full Version : Tara's Diary

Tara has a new diary entry up at her website.
A couple thoughts on it--looking back on her diary for the last year to two years there is virtually no discussion about skating. Maybe it is just me, but I find it strange that the people she is writing the diary for are her fans from the skating world, not acting. So even if she has been unable to skate, you would think skating would at least get a mention. Do you think her publicists have encouraged her to talk only about acting/auditions, etc, so people will see her as an actor and not a skater? Otherwise, it just doesn't make any sense to me. Skating has been such a big part of her life; even if she wants to move on, most skaters really miss skating when they try to leave it behind.
Second thing is that she mentions a new friend in her diary--they are working on a screenplay together. I think it is great that she has a new close friend and all. But it seems like when Tara has a "current" best friend, that is virtually the only person she talks about and does things with (or at least mentions in her diary). She seems like one of those people that has one close friend at a time--makes me curious if she is still friends with Erin, the one who travelled with Tara during much of her later skating years, and I think she even took some time off of college to do it.
Anyway--sorry for the rambling post; whenever I read her diary entries I am perplexed--she talks about food and acting in every entry. That leads to a third thought--she is so small; where does all that food she eats go to? She must have one heck of a metabolism.

Sounds like she's desperately trying to remain in the spotlight. As callous as it may sound, I don't really care about what she's up to anymore, now that she's not skating. Also, seems like every young adult wants to be an actor. She doesn't look appealing enough to make it big.

The part that caught my eye - about how 'too many people want to be your friend for what you can do for them" etc. Sounds like she got used by someone, doesn't it?
Sounds like she makes friends rather quickly though. Hopefully things work out for her. Deosn't sound like she's thinking of skating at all - wonder how bad her hips feel these days?

I noticed that part too, and that was actually part of what made me think about her old friends that she no longer mentions.
Regarding how her hips feel these days--that is actually why I never completely understand why she doesn't mention skating at all. Her fans have been there for her through her tough times, and it seems like she should at least update them on how she is feeling (since that was the reason given for no longer being in SOI).

I assume she has given up skating, but that is why I started this thread. She hasn't mentioned skating in her diary for a very long time. So, your guess is as good as mine.
Sunshine21, her website is www.taralipinski.com

But it is nice to see that skating isin't her whole life, but that she is persueing other dreams and aspirations. I think as fans, *we* want to see her skate, but I think it is more important that she is doing what she wants to be doing.

I agree with that, and I personally am fine with the fact that she is pursuing acting and other things in her life. But many of her fans just want to know where skating fits into her life. Does she skate recreationally? Does she want to skate in the future? I think many of the questions stem from the fact that after her skating show was cancelled in Houston that there really wasn't any response from Tara, and now there is not any talk about skating. Also, not much information was given when SOI announced Tara would not be in the cast this year. Tara didn't even mention it in her diary.
So, my intention with this thread was more or less to see if anyone had heard anything about Tara in regard to skating since there really hasn't been any news for a while. And just simply wondering why she doesn't even mention skating.
It's not like there are all that many pro opportunities for skating, so it is smart for her to focus on something else. However, most skaters usually make some type of announcement about their skating status to let their fans know their intentions.

Pure speculation here, no inside info from me.....
There could be several reasons Tara doesn't talk about skating right now. Maybe its too painful emotionally to address it, so she doens't. Skating probably was her whole life for a while. If its taken away from her, it may be hard to cope. OTH, if it dominated her life and she's sick of it, another reason not to want to talk about it openly.
Skating made her who she is in the public eye. Maybe she is like some actors who try to establish another identity aside from the one that made them famous. One that comes to mind was Eve Plumb, who in later interviews refused to do her famous lines in Brady Bunch. She wanted to be known as Eve, not Jan. Maybe Tara wants to be known as something else other than "just" a skater.

I think you are probably right, Flatfoote. My early suspicion as I mentioned in my original post is that she has been asked not to talk about skating in order to be seen as an actress, and not a skater. So, I would guess either she has made that decision, or one of her publicists suggested it.
Oh well, best of luck to her. I had read in a Yagudin article that he and some other pros are working on trying to create more pro competitions. Maybe if more opportunities open up, pros like Tara and others we hardly see will pop up in the skating world again.

Tara acheived so much at such a remarkably young age and won everything there was to win in the skating world by age 15.
Yet the "skating world", particularly the USFSA, were shabby in their treatment of her and I hope one day she will write a book about it.
There is alot NOT to like about the skating world, especially for Tara, so I can imagine that she would like to move on in her personal life and leave it alone.
Those are obviously just my thoughts on it based on what I read and heard in the past. Dont have any clue how she actually feels about it.

Well, that's a rather, uh, creative and original way to look at it. Everything I've read about it indicates that it was Team Tara who behaved shabbily to the USFSA rather than vice versa. For instance, there's the little matter of how her agent insisted on changing the rules of the 1998 spring cheesefest to suit Tara *while the event was already in progress*. And then there was her mother throwing a hissy fit at the White House (the "you've ruined my daughter!" incident). I imagine that by the time Tara walked out on her USFSA contract the next fall, it was good riddance indeed.

Two incidents? Well, where there is smoke, there is fire. There was also a rather unflattering portrait of team Lipinski in "Edge of Glory". And I remember her saying some very stupid things about the pairs scandal shortly after it happened in 2002. She was interviewed by a cable news show, cannot remember if it was CNN or MSNBC.She sounded as if she were on some drug or something-inarticulate, repeating herself, saying not nice things about the Canadian pairs. She finally gave me a reason for not liking her -- was never a fan of her skating to begin with.
