At CSOI last night I spotted a young girl wearing a T-shirt with a slogan on it that was some kind of skating quote. It went something along the lines of "If figure skating were ??? it would be ??? hockey." Unfortunately I couldn't read the rest.

Anyone want to fill in the blanks for me?

TIA

"If figure skating were easy it would be called hockey". One of my friends at my old rink had that shirt.

Hey, I've got that same t-shirt with that quote on it. The print is different for each word, and it's in color blocks, so it is pretty hard to read!

I'll bet hockey players have shirts that say "Figure Skaters Make Holes in the Ice."

A friend of mine has the shirt you mentioned. Interestingly enough, no hockey player has ever challenged her about the text.

No, I can't... :halo:
No, I won't... :??
YES I WILL SAY IT!

Maybe the hockey players can't read, so they don't know to be insulted.

Arrgh. Sorry, I didn't mean it, I just couldn't resist saying it.

I have to learn to resist temptations.

But... you can buy the shirt (or see it) at Rainbow Sports.

Ice dancers (and pairs skaters) traditionally ask hockey players "Wouldn't you rather skate with a woman than with a stick?"

I asked a hockey-playing friend of mine that one day, and he thought about it and sucked his teeth for a moment, before replying: "Nah, sticks don't argue!"

Hey, he couldn't have been a real hockey player if he had teeth, LOL!

Do you even have ice hockey in the UK? I thought it was all that sissy field hocky thing where when they fall they land on nice soft grass. ;)

(Kidding of course. I've played field hockey. It can be brutal. I've got the scars to prove it.)

Well, for my nickel's worth ...
I was at the arena back in March. Our junior B hockey team were waiting for the ice because it was team picture night. They were due to get the ice at 6:30. Figure skaters were on the ice while they impatiently waited and waited and waited. It was now past 6:30 and one skater's music was still playing and she was receiving instruction from her coach. Needless to say, the "boyz" were trying to get out onto the ice when I yelled at them to wait. Their response to the figure skater (and figure skating in general) ...
Skating isn't a real sport anyway, so why are they even out on the ice.
It's after 6:30 and it's our ice time. Why aren't they off already.
Skaters leave HUGE holes in the ice and even with a resurfacing, the "bumps" seem to produce more falls by the hockey players in addition to them losing an edge.
My response has been:
Skating IS a sport. You should try their work outs! Ever tried to jump up in the air, spin 4 times and come down cleanly on ONE blade? Yeah, I thought not.
You're right, it is your time, but show some maturity and wait for the skater to get off the ice.
You have a point about the bumps in the ice. However, if you really want to learn how to hold an edge on your skates, ask a figure skater how to do it. I also tell them the story of Elvis Stojko and the hockey players he was playing hockey with and how they wanted HIM to show THEM how to get more power in their skating. I usually don't get any response to this one.

Deb

Field Hockey is definitely a brutal sport, and my mom has the false dental plate to prove it - captain of her high school team, she got hit in the mouth with the ball, broke her front three teeth off, 8O , but finished the game before going to the dentist...

(Rather like football is football, so we always say Rugby, American Football, Aussie Rules, or Gaelic to distinguish the minor varieties ;) ).

This is a pet peeve of mine. How about the figure skater and coach showing some maturity and getting off the ice when they're supposed to?! Maybe the hockey kids were being rude, but so were the coach and figure skater IMO.

Other than that, I agreed with everything you wrote!

Yes, it was a bit rude, but the hockey players were older. It was the act of one particular player that really rubbed me the wrong way and when I consider that he thinks the world revolves around him and his needs ... well it got up my dander and after I said my piece, so too did one of the team's staff.
I guess my big beef is lack of respect for others in general, regardless of the sport or in life.
