On the World's Exhibition broadcast that I *finally* saw yesterday, it was mentioned that Tatiana Totmianina had been injured in practice and so she and Maxim couldn't perform.

Does anybody know what happened and whether she has recovered? What a disappointment that must have been to them, not to be able to do the special performance as gold medalists.

I think I read that she'd dislocated her shoulder that morning in practice. I haven't read anything about her recovery though, so I don't know. Apparently the US coverage (assuming that's what you saw) didn't show their "thankyous" though - instead of performing, T&M came out onto the ice in their LP costumes with Edvin Marton, a violinist, who played parts of their music. I think parts of their LP were shown on the big screen. Tatiana then took a microphone and spoke to the audience (in broken English), explaining that they couldn't perform because of her injury, and thanking the audience for being so supportive etc. It was sweet. (I can type it up for you, if you'd like to know what she said exactly.) Later, when all the skaters were coming back out (e.g. how they're announced and then all do an element), IIRC T&M came out too and did a lift, although I'm not sure they looked 100% comfortable. I think they purposefully chose one that didn't put too much strain on Tatiana.

Thanks, Icenut. Yes, it was the US broadcast I saw and there was just a brief mention of an injury. How sad, but at least they got to be on the ice. Nice of you to offer to type it up, but I can imagine what she said.

I missed the exhibitions and didn't know Tatiana had been injured. They looked okay at the COI show in Philly this past Saturday.
