Which skaters would you say have the best jump landings (i.e. complete, secure, good position)? Michelle Kwan's jumps look so secure to me. I also remember Yagudin, Kulik and Eldredge as having great jump landings in their eligible days. I miss those guys!

So, who else?

Evgeny Plushenko when on. Sasha's landings in her Nats SP this year were phenominal. Couldn't be more secure(for her).

I agree with you about Plushenko. He is a natural smooth jumper.
I'll have to rewatch Sasha's Nationals SP, but I know that usually, her jump landings look a little bit "off" to me. Not exactly shaky, but like she's not always landing on a smooth BO edge. It's hard for me to describe.

They can be every now and again for some jumps. That's why I was so impressed to see how smooth they were at Nats. Usually the lutz and toe are her funkier landing jumps. Loop, salcow, axel, and flip have great landings(when she lands them well).

For the Americans, Michelle Kwan has extremely secure jump landings, with great flow out. So does Johnny Weir.

All Michelle's jump landings are secure! lol, and I think Sasha Cohen's jump landings are too!

Sometimes, when she overrotates a jump, she tends to dig the pick in to slow down the landing ... this is after the initial pick in and correct edge down. This is what I saw that she did at Campbells with the 2 axel...(which was huge, and I thought to myself, man, with that footwork {serpentine} entry, and she overrotated that jump, what natural spring she has.)

Like Irina, when Sasha makes a mistake on a jump, she tends to overrotate it, not underrotate it...she makes the latter mistake as well, like everyone else, and tends to slightly 2 foot from those mistakes.

Overall, however, her jumps and her landings are very pure technically and fantastic.

Dorothy Hamill...her jump landings are sublime.

I prefer Midori Ito's. Some people hate the wide-swinging free leg (which I think is a result of the leg wrap), but I think it's quite attractive because it enables her to get a very deep knee bend and hold her free leg almost parallel to the ice. I think Kyoko Ina had similar leg wrap and deep landing positions, but less consistency.

Among eligible ladies, I'd say Michelle Kwan, although her double axel is much weaker. I think in her early teens she used to hold that landing edge with great flow, but now it seems to hook a bit.

I'd have to disagree on Sasha. Her landings can be exquisitely light, but I agree with traz66. Sometimes I wonder if her balletic hyperextension affects her hips' stability.

Eldredge very often had a poor position on his landings, as he very often broke at the waist. Although he was consistent in landing his jumps, he had a really bad habit of landing with poor posture, so I definitely wouldn't include him among the great landers.

The one person who stands out in my mind is Johnny Weir. His landings at Nats this year were like butter. Those jumps were just perfection from takeoff to landing. He effortlessly achieved height and distance and landed with wonderful posture and great flow. Gorgeous.

Huh? Sasha Cohen's jumps are "very pure technically"?? I have to disagree. She does have great quick rotation and air position, but I can't even tell the difference between her flip and her lutz. It does look like she frequently skids on the landings too.

Michelle's jumps just barely make rotation if she actually DOES make the rotation. I think Fumie and Jenny have better landings.

oh no not another thread turn into skater a versus skater b

Back to topic

Kristi is great with her landings, great flow. Tara has great rotation speed, and landings.

Whether a skater over or under rotates, either way is a flaw technique.

Michelle's jumps are usually clean. Fumie's loop is rarely clean and Jenny frequently hooks her jumps landings, which isn't considered textbook. Fumie's other jumps maybe, but I don't see how Jenny's jump landings are better than Michelle's. Michelle's have much more flow out of them.

I like Sasha's when she puts her jumps clean..they look so flowing and pretty.

I love Johnny Weir's landings too. Back in the day I loved Christopher Bowman's landings too. Alexei Urmanov also has nice landings.

Brian Boitano's landings are quite spiffy, imho. :)

I agree with previous posters that Dorothy Hamill and Christopher Bowman were standouts in this regard.
