For the first time we had floor seats, and they were well worth the price! I always thought Todd Eldredge was rather tall, but he, Yagudin & Browning are all about the same height, which is not more than about 5'6". It was great to see the edges from so close up, and I also noticed that several of the skaters will be getting new boots soon, judging from the creases beginning to form at the outside ankles.
The skating:
Oksana had wonderful speed and power! She landed all her jumps, including a huge double axel right in front of me. Could anyone have more flexible arms?
Kurt was guesting, and his footwork was absolutely amazing, as always. His jumps seemed to come out of nowhere, also as usual.
Todd - I began to become a Todd fan the first time I saw him in person at SOI four years ago. I'm now a total convert. Speed, power, edges, spins...he's a great technician, and his showmanship keeps improving.
I did not find Meno & Sand or Yuka Sato exciting, but did appreciate their fine craftsmanship on the ice.
Sale & Pelletier were in their element with the ballroom number. I think it had the most pure entertainment value of any of the numbers in the show.
Berezhnaya & Sikharulidze were also exciting and graceful. They had the biggest throw triple (don't remember which jump it was), but it really made me want to see Shen & Zhou! Sorry, B&S.
Ina & Zimmerman - I'm sooo glad they went pro. They are a fine addition to SOI, and there was no way they were ever going to top Shen & Zhao. Better to lighten up a bit, earn some money and have a good time while still young and fit.
