The funniest movie you will EVER see about skating is coming on DVD!!!

You will die laughing! Oh my, I can't wait! Scott Hamilton with buck teeth and a bad wig as a judge. Wendy Malik as the ultimate nutso skating mom. Tai, Randy, and others in cameos. The drunk Russian coach.

Oh, too funny!

Has anyone bought this DVD yet? I'm wondering if it is worth the money (it's now available on Amazon)

Yes, but I had already seen the movie and loved it. We watched the DVD as a group at a skating party, people were laughing so hard I thought we were going to have to stock Depends!

I definitely recomment it.

Thanks! I'll have to order it. Then again, I see Best Buys is supposed to carry it. I'll check that out first.

Not a good movie at all. I would recommend you rent it befre buying it.

Saw this recently and have been searching for this thread. The movie STUNK! It was sooooo bad. It had these skaters competing to make it to regionals! Last I checked, anyone who wants to can go to regional as long as you are a USFSA member. And the outfits they wore to skate -- it was more like watching a Showcase performance and not a freestyle program. The whole thing was silly and stupid.

The whole thing was silly and stupid.

Um...I haven't seen it yet, but I think that was kind of the point.

The dumbest thing about the movie is that all the competitors/events in the fictional run for Nationals all look like it's an Adult Silver event. Didn't even make an effort to get skaters. In fact, it actually looks like an Adult Interpretive event, with the music and costumes.

Although I didn't hate the movie, I didn't really like it either. Scott Hamilton was the best part of the movie -- very funny. And I enjoyed the cameos.

If you get the DVD, don't bother with the "extras." The interviews were abysmal! Even my filmmaker friends couldn't stand them.

Yeah that movie is not funny to skaters because it's SOOOOOO unaccurate. Apparently, to win Senior regionals, all you need is a double axel, which they call "THE triple!!!!". None of the skaters are of a high enough caliber of skating to make it plausible- I understand it's hard to find skaters willing to film a movie and stuff, but apparently Ice Princess found people, so On Edge could have, also. I didn't find it funny at all, the only highlight was definitely Scott Hamilton as a judge, but when all the facts of a movie which claims to be a mockumentary are WRONG, it's just not funny to watch. You're too pissed off to enjoy it. Plus most of the acting is terrible, and the way it ends is pretty stupid. Just sooo disappointed cause it was supposed to be funny.

PS: I want the 5 minutes of the twin dalmatien dogs number BACK. 5 perfectly good minutes of my life....gone.

I thought it was pretty funny...it definitely doesn't portray competitive skaters, but it was a good laugh..Of course I had to explain to my boyfriend and his family that skating wasnt quite like that 8-)

I loved Jason Alexander as the zamboni guy. It reminded me of a conglomerate of all of the zamboni guys I have ever known. they really nailed it.

I think you guys are missing the point of the movie. It was never really meant to portray skating as it really is -- only caricatures (spelling?) of all the characters you are bound to meet one day in the wild, wacky, wonderful world of skating (and yes, I think I have probably met every one of those people at some time or another!!)--

anyway, I remember thinking it was pretty funny, if, yes, inaccurate...

I just watched my dvd the other day. I put it on at the rink, lol. Anyway, the triple they were talking about in the movie was the triple axel not the double. It is a funny movie, dumb but funny. Those girls in the movie were teens not adults and in adult silver they are not doing doubles yet. Even the big girl was a teenager. The competitions were based on showcase events like the pirate, dalmatians, salsa dancer etc... I think to make the movie more interesting to outsiders of skating. It is true you only need to pass tests to make it to regionals.

The whole point was that it's a parody of skating. What skater hasn't known a mother like Veda's, or a closet-fan Zamboni guy like Phil, or the Tonya Harding trailer-trash type skater? I thought it was a riot, and I know of several international-level skaters at my rink who saw it and thought so too, because we all agreed that every character was like an exaggeration of someone we've known over the years.

But, to each their own. I admit, when I was younger I was very serious about accuracy in books and movies, especially when it came to skating, and I might not have liked it then either.

Um, I "got" the movie, and I know what adult silver is. My point is that they could have done the caricatures and parody using something actually closer to skating. The thing that made "This Is Spinal Tap" so funny was just how close it was to real rock & roll. The thing that made "A Mighty Wind" so funny was just how close it was to real folk. They took characters that could pass in that world, then pushed them just enough to get the caricature and humor. They could've done the same thing with skating, but instead chose to make it TOO ridiculous. I don't expect utter realism from a comedy, but I think the movie would have been funnier if they'd put a little more realism in it.

Recently rented this movie on DVD...I would not spend the money to buy it...it's not much more than a silly movie with some laughs in it....just a tiny touch of a meaningful story-line to it along the lines of the "trailer park" girl winning; the skater pushed by her mother deciding to do what she wants to do instead of skating and "the fatty" and her coach falling in love.

Plenty of truth in that movie, even if it is exaggerated. It is a spoof on a sport that is seen by many as fluff and drama. Pretentious judges, overbearing parents, rinkside relationships, absurd costumes and overwrought musical interpretations...all part of the real world of skating.
The thing that made it seem less realistic was the poor quality of the actual skating, but it isnt a documentary.

I can't help it, I have to say it. The chubby actress on the cover is my cousin's husband's sister. Brush with greatness, as they say.

I didn't like that movie much, either. I think they were trying for one thing but ended up with something TOTALLY different...something not too great. How they managed to get Scott Hamilton and Jason Alexander in it is beyond me.

We rented it a long time ago. I think it was supposed to be a spoof. A bad spoof at that, although I did find some of the charters to be entertaining. I think it was over the top. More stupid that really funny, however the best parts were the cameos and the Hamilton bit.

My daughter and I cannot wait for Ice Princess it looks very exciting. It comes out this summer I think.:?: I wonder what clubs the skaters belong to and how they got into the acting bit? Do you think we will see anyone we recognize? That must have been fun for them.:)

I've been involved in this sport so long (and definitely competitively) to know that there are some people who are just like the characters in the movie, in real life...thats why it was so funny...dumb at times for sure, but I'm sure everyone can relate to many parts in the movie :)
