I love the expression "kiss and cry," and thinking about that was led to wonder a couple of things.
First, is there a similar term or any term for the "bull pen" area where skaters and coaches wait to go on ice?
Second, are there any other colloquial skating expressions or terms that I might not know? Along the lines of waxel, flutz, that kind of thing?

I'm rather fond of "chack," and am trying hard to spread it into non-skating references.
Human Zamboni is another favourite expression, I just hate having to use it!

Not one of my favorites but there is always "splatfest".

I like "double cheek combination" or "stain the ice" to describe a fall!!

"Human Zamboni"
referring to a fall where the skater slides and cleans the ice as they go

I have a hard time remembering not to use "chack" talking about non-skating topics to non-fans who have no idea what it means. :)

I've also found myself using the word "voidy" and spelling evil as "eville" in everyday life too (courtesy of FSU), lol

doesn't surprise me that the spelling of things is different from skating boards, and I too enjoy human zamboni....

Our coach was explaining the waltz 8, and one of the girls is all "why do they call it that?" and he explains about how skaters used to do figures, and the shape of an 8, etc, and shes all "but then why dont they call it a 3-turn-push-back-step-forward-8?"

This isn't humorous, but does anyone know why two foot turns are named after Indian (Native American) tribes (e.g., mohawk and choctaw)?
