Ok guys. We've asked if you would encourage your kid to be a Pair Skater or Ice-Dancer...Now would you encourage your kid to be a Synchronized Skater?

As from experience, Syncronized Skating costs ALOT of money and I mean ALOT ,you have to pay for the dresses the trips the ice time and it all amounts up when you just simply don't have the money to pay for it.
So to answer your question FSWer, If I did have the money and I knew I could support my child then yes of course I would.
If I didn't then i probably wouldn't mention it until he/she noticed it and then maybe you could talk he/she round it , maybe try something a bit cheaper.
I don't know really.

Absolutely!
Synchro is awesome and MUCH less expensive than singles or dance, or at least it was for me. Unless a skater is on a top team and competing internationally, the travel expenses aren't bad at all.
It's not a discipline that suits everyone, but it's a heck of a lot of fun and harder than anything else I did in skating.

Well, it was one of the best experiences for my daughter last year, so I'd definitely recommend it. We did a very low key, youth intro team, not too much traveling, a great group of parents to hang out with (I miss them all so much!) and wonderful friends for my daughter. She really neede the social interaction at that time, and she got it!
It was a bit pricey for us, especially when I got laid off in April, but we managed. And I'd let her do it again if it was with the same coach, at the same rink.

why not?
many team sports demand money, time, parental support. team skating is a great way to continue in this sport and to be a part of a team. if you want to try out for ice shows (chorus level) team skating is a good way to prep for it. sounds like a fun way to spend a year, post high school.
