Hello All,
I was just wondering if any of you knew of any online figure skating games?
I know this might sound weird but i would really like to play one!

Thanks!

well there is a game where you create your own skater and train her and create her programs... she goes in competitions like skate canada skate america and worlds etc. and she competes against other online skaters. if you want to play go to www.playasport.com and then register...

That's not weird at all. Lots of people play role-playing games on the internet. I play the game at playasport.com too. Your skater starts with just a single toe loop, a layback spin and easy footwork. You can have your skater practice to gain more points. Points come in three categories: jumping, spinning and artistry (which includes footwork, spirals and other moves in the field). The more points you have in each category, the more moves in each category you can put in your program and the more likely your skater is to perform them well. You need to make your skater practice to earn more skill points, and you can earn no more than four in a day, so it takes some time to build up enough points. I've been playing for over a month and my skater just got her triple lutz today.

That sounds like fun!

Schmeck, off to check it out (as hubby groans, because I'm on the computer so much as it is, LOL!)

If you're interested, there are some figure skating trivia/quizzes here:
http://www.funtrivia.com/dir/4647.html

I made up one about Marie-France and Patrice but for some reason it isn't showing up in that section right now. But you can see it if you go here:

Enjoy! :)

There used to be a skating game on the Carefree gum website, but I can't find it anymore. If anyone can find it, post. It was kind of fun.

Were you thinking of the Fantasy Figure Skating contest, where you pick actual skaters on the GP circuit, and get points when they place, etc?

Oh that is the game on the USFSA?

That's what they had on the USFSA site. It only runs from sometime before the GP starts, to the last regualr GP event, I think. It doesn't include the final, IIRC. It's more of a contest than a game, though.

Re Playasport, it looks like Polly Pooperak isn't settling for the pewter, she's racking up the gold medals! :D

icyboid, I noticed how Polly has been concentrating on practicing just her jumps. It appears that this strategy is the best? My skater (ranked 5th in her group) has a 28/25/22 for skills, and only has two golds, a silver and a bronze :(

If you want some really ridiculous games, go to Christopher Bowman's website. You can even "shoot" Dick & Peggy.

I don't know if that strategy is best or not, LOL. Maybe she's going for her famed quintuple salchow.

All I can really say is good for her, and I'm glad my skater isn't in her group!

Oh no, I'm just a Polly fan/supporter. Maybe Aussie Willy can shed some light on her Playasport adventures? :)

My kids have been playing the Barbie Figure Skating game on our PC, so I figured that the freebie online version would be fun for all of us.

That's a hard game! Especially on a laptop. I remember there used to be another one, I think it was on playasport.com You had to make your skater practice, adn put together a program and all that. You just weren't able to see the performances. I think once you got a certain number of points in jumping, you can add another jump to your repertoire.

Sigh as an avid gamer, I kind of wish figure skating had a better digital representation. Only games I've heard with figure skating for Winter Sports for the NES (if you want to go back really far),michelle kwan figure skating (http://www.fileplanet.com/30763/30000/fileinfo/Michelle-Kwan-Figure-Skating), and a winter game for dreamcast. If I was a dev I'd so love to make a serious game about the sport. One with enough flexibility so that it wouldn't be targeted to everyone (not just females), but alas getting enough support for it would be tough to say the least.

Just adding onto this thread, I bought "Wii Winter Sports" last year simply because it included a figure skating event. Meh. You use a handheld control to "stir" or "shake" to make the skater do spins and jumps, so it's not really a simulator. It's okay, but not as much fun as the real thing.

That's because we adult skaters should develope a game that can be used on Wii, Playstation 2 & 3, Natendo(sp), Xbox and PC that let's you choose the marking system to which you want to be judged (Pro Circuit marking out of 10, 6.0's OBO, COP, IJS or CPC), choose either US Standard Track, US Adult, Skate Canada Adult StarSkate, Skate Canada StarSkate or ISU Competitive Track (Juvenile and up). Let's you choose what discipline (Ladies Singles, Mens Singles, Pairs, Ice Dance or Interpretive (Artistic for Pro). Also, there has to be a way in which we could be able to input MP3s of our own skating music. It would be really interesting to see something like this work. It would have to be a Wireless Game System with several Wireless feeds at several different body positions and a Wireless USB connected to the computer to input the information. This could become a powerful tool for skaters and also a powerful educator for fans. I just wish I had the know how to make the software as I'm still trying to make heads or tails out of 2008 Visual Studio.
