Sarah sounds like a well centered young woman. I'm glad she's going the route that she wants to go. Thanks for the link.

Thanks for posting.

I have a feeling Sarah will be a celeb, but perhaps of another kind? She is really emotionally wise for her age and apparently well tuned into herself, not just smart...I wish her the best of everything.

I find that the support system that Sara has grown up with and has with her family is absolutely fabulous. Sara is focused on her life just as she should be. I wish that Tara had that in her life. I sometimes feel that Tara was sorta thrown to the wolves. The wolves being the media and Hollywood lifestyle.

Best of luck for Sara at Yale and to Tara wherever she may be.

I have been a fan of Sara's since I saw her live in '98. The cool thing is, she's always been like this...down to earth, focused on school, etc.

I use her as an example of why parents of skaters should not pull their kids out of school for training when the skaters are juviniles or intermediates. The only time Sara did not show up at Great Neck North HS for classes was the three months before the Olympics.

As I watch more and more pro athletes skip education for "the big time", I worry that they will be injured to a point that they will not longer be able to continue in their chosen sport. Since they don't have an education to fall back on, what are they going to do with their lives? (Read: Tara...what is she doing now that she can't skate anymore?) It's why I chose a Division III college with no athletic scholarships and refuse to watch both college and professional football and basketball.

Tenley Albright is also one of my favorite skaters. Not because she started the dominance of American ladies, but because she was able to become a surgeon at a time when women were nurses.

I was watching the parade on The Weather Channel (big snowstorm in Chi-town), and they didn't mention her at all!

Well, I think you're a snob. What's wrong with being a "nurse". Not enough prestige for you?

I think you're being a bit sensitive. There was a time when, if women wanted to go into the medical field, they were limited to being a nurse, even if they really wanted to be a doctor. There's nothing wrong with being a nurse, unless you really wanted to be a doctor but weren't able to because of your race or gender.

Sarah is one of the finest role models for skaters.
She doesnt indulge in introspective, tedious babble about her feelings/motivations nonstop(ala MK) nor does she ever seem remote(ala SC)
but instead,
She displays a well balanced personality that has led to a well balanced life.
She attended school, lived at home, learned an instrument, excelled in skating, had nonskating friends within her every day life, and , oh yeah, she won the Olympics!
Amazing girl!!!!
Kudos to her and her well rounded, educated family.

I love Sarah too and think she is the greatest. She did what she needed to do to win the gold medal, and then got accepted to Yale. Certain fans are still mad that she won that night but I thought it was fantastic!
