Just heard that "On Edge", a skating spoof film, is now (finally) available from Amazon for pre-order. Go here. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00018YC1O/qid%3D1074000499/sr%3D1/103-0768513-8237414)
The film's official site is here. (http://www.onedgethefilm.com/index2.htm)
Sounds potentially rather funny--although possibly somewhat embarrassing--hard to tell as to its quality, though the cast list (both skaters and actors) is decently impressive. (I adore Sabrina Lloyd. :D)

Thanks for the links. I will probably try to find that - always like to watch skating movies. Interesting cast, including Peter Carruthers, Tai Babilonia, Steven Cousins, Randy Gardiner, and Kristi Yamaguchi all acting as Judges. Also, Scott Hamilton is listed as an "off-the-wall" former skating judge. Worth a look and probably quite funny.

Just read about another skating movie about to start filming in March, starring Michelle Trachtenberg (Dawn, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) :

Could be corny, could be entertaining, who knows.

"She would play a brainy ugly duckling who realizes her dream of becoming a champion figure skater with the help of physics, a disgraced coach, three snooty ice princesses, a chorus of stage parents and the hunky boy who drives the Zamboni ice resurfacing machine."
Good Lord! Sounds like "Seabiscuit on Ice."

I can't believe this - they're advertising for auditions at our local rink for this movie. They're looking for girls that can skate, between the ages of 12-17, to play three snobby ice princesses, and one goth-like girl from out of town. The princesses are named Gen, Jen, and Jenn, the goth is Zoe. I tried to talk my 12 1/2 yr old skater-daughter into trying out for the goth, because there's no way she'd play a princess type. She declined, but laughed about the names!

Wouldn't a skater lose their eligibility if they were paid to skate in this movie?

Yuck, that sounds lame. Plus the skaters are has-beens they need Sasha and Jenny and the rest of the good CURRENT SKATERS not just old people.

Guess what, DramaSwan. A whole world of skating existed before you were even born! Figure skating did not come into existence the day you turned on the TV three years ago. Many of us look forward to seeing these skaters.
(Perhaps your beloved Sasha will follow Tara L. into the acting profession. And that ain't a compliment. :) )

Are they having auditions in California?

It is about time we had another skating movie - I mean how long has it been since The Cutting Edge was released. You at least want a movie with memorable quotes like "Toepick!" or "We forgot about the flowers" (Ice Castles).
BTW - Ice Castles is being shown late on TV this week. Must set the VCR because I don't have a copy of that one yet.

I love this thread. I always miss the skating movies on tv- I guess Ice Castles would be about it. Oh and DramaSwan, don't let the bashing get you. Even if you did only turn your tv on 3 yrs ago, you haven't missed much except for Tonya and Midori's triple axels in the early 90's and Nancy getting wacked back in '94. LoL

Some of my fellow adult skaters were talking about this idea for another figure skating movie last week and we came up with an idea.
They should do one about adult figure skaters over the age of 50. It would be a cross between "Cacoon" and "The Cutting Edge"
We are a wacky bunch...if we ever start a synchro team we are going to call it "Geritol Blades"

Hey, Figureskates, I hope I can get a spot on that team, LOL!
That's a good question about eligibility, though. If the girls don't accept payment, then I would think they would be OK, and the way the USFSA has loosened up on pro/am status, maybe even payment of some sort would be tolerated.
