Memphis Skating Club?

Does anyone know what the Memphis Skating Club will do in the future since its rink (located in the Mall of Memphis) closed along with the rest of the mall on Christmas Eve? One alternative may be at the Desoto Civic Center. Here's a link to an article:

Thanks for the link!! Somewhat encouraging for Figure Skaters in S. Tennessee and N. Mississippi.

Unfortunately the Civic Center doesn't allow much time for Figure Skating. They (Desoto Center) only cater to Hockey. Something about the depth of the ice and toe-picks marring the "River King" emblems in the ice.

They did SELL Memphis FSC about 4 whole hours for the month of January. Pretty huge $$$ bite for a small club. But, here is the kick, NO JUMPING!!!! Well, guess it is better than nothing.

Most skaters will now have to drive to Little Rock 2 1/2 hrs or Nashville 3hrs.

I am not sure but, I believe the club has 1yr to find another permanent location before it has to go inactive. It is a great club with alot of dedicated skaters and coaches. I only hope a permanent solution can be found.

I know some of the skaters have been coming to Franklin, Tn (10 or so miles from Nashville) to train at Southern Ice. Memphis had some excellent skaters and I wish them well.

I hope the Memphis club can work something out. I read an article that said different groups are considering re-opening the Mall of Memphis in another form, so maybe the rink has a possibility of re-opening as well.

My first job out of college was as dept manager for a store at the Mall of Memphis. I used to see the kids skating there during the day. This makes me sad.

Hi I am one of the skaters from Memphis.And it is VERY,very ,very sad and hard to deal with,even though I'll be skating at Desoto for the few hrs we have been aloted,I sincerely hope and pray that SOMEONE will open up a ice rink in Memphis,it would be a great asset to the city

Is there any new news on the Memphis Skating Club? I'm pretty sure the Mall of Memphis was torn down last fall, so maybe something was worked out with the DeSoto Civic Center.
