Skating Fans,

Here is an opportunity for your input. I am preparing to foster a petition
for reform of the ISU. Below is a first draft of my proposed wording.
Please feel free to post your comments (pro or con) or any wording
additions/deletions/rephrasings to this board, or privately to me at:
ddr874pm@pacbell.net

I will use the petitionsonline website when final rendition is ready.
Dissemination will be via URL distribution to ISU, IOC, Media outlets
worldwide, skating forums online and by and snail mail to ISU member
federations. If anyone knows of best way to get petition URL to elligible
skaters (directly or indirectly) please let me know .

Regards, Peter Murray

TO: ISU National Governing Body Representatives

This is a petition supporting prompt reform and reorganization within the International Skating Union. The signatories to this petition are fed up with the secretive nature of the ISU, and the culture of corruption that is fostered by those currently leading the ISU.
We respectfully request that the upcoming ISU congress in Japan begin this process with the removal of President Octavio Cincquanta, and the entire executive council, to be followed by the election of new leadership devoted to honest reform.
We further request the election of coaches and skaters, eligible and retired to the voting membership of the ISU. Skaters and coaches must play an integral part in any reform efforts with direct input to future decisions regarding their sport.

Sincerely,

Dustin

Sounds worthy to me!

Punctuation error - add a comma after "eligible and retired"

I think the idea is wonderful.

The petition, itself, needs clarity. "Fed up" is not a good choice of words. The phrase is colloquial and easily dismissed. These are business people, running a rather large non-profit venture.

I humbly suggest short and sweet. Something along the lines:

[b:309ed220a1]The signatories to this petition call for the immediate and thorough review and reform of the structure of the ISU. It is our position that the current structure of the ISU fosters the secrecy, controversy and insulation which has been and continues to be damaging the sport of Figure Skating.

We respectfully suggest and support the following:

1. Immediate inclusion of coaches, and skaters, both elligible and professional to the voting ranks of the ISU.

2. Immediate review and reform of both the judging selection and composition at competitions. (i.e. judges should be selected by continent, not country).

3. Standardization of the technical mark deduction in both the SP and LP/FS.

4. Use of instant replay by the referee at each competition, to set the technical base mark.

Then add whatever you want. I am not that familiar with the other issues. Short and sweet is usually best to get people's attention. Also, the particulars are not nearly as important at this point, as the number of signatures.

And, it may be best to stick to just one or two points, and really hammer them!!

Thanks for taking on such an important project. [/b:309ed220a1]
