That rumor has made it all sorts of places tonight. It started out over on the USFSA discussion boards. Until I see an official source (what is posted there doesn't give a link to an article or source) I won't believe it.

Sasha should have switched to Rafael (Michelle's new coach) last year. She has worked with Rafael in the past. He was close to her Southern Cal home too.

yea I looked on the website too and could not find anything about it. The article looked convincing though. Who knows if it is a rumor or not.

Hum, maybe it's true after all.

It's in the online Hartford Courant now:

OMG--I just don't believe it!!
Those of you that aren't getting the links to work, Sasha apparently hired Robin Wagner as her new coach (Thought I'd mention her name since nobody else on here did).

I wonder where this leaves Sarah if she comes back.

CMc ... I would think this means Sarah isn't coming back.

Hi,

I was very surprised when I heard this, its very strange.

I wonder whats going to happen to Tatiana's other students now?

Also, this will make Nationals more nervewreking for Sasha I bet..with the amount of publicity she will be getting on this.:?:

This is a very curious move. Obviously, there's a lot more to it than the official story suggests - it's 2 weeks before Nats, and not the best time to switch coaches. And Robin is an unusual choice -I guess Sasha chose her b/c she lives somewhat close and has elite coaching experience, but from what I could tell during Robin and Sarah's coaching partnership, Robin excelled in motivating Sarah and giving her good choreography (Sarah's interp of it is another matter), not really helping/changing her technique. I think they did a little bit of work on this, but it seems that Sasha needs a fair amount of work on her tech skills. Yes, she's talented, but she's had her share of falls at big comps.

OTOH, if Sasha's probs have been psychological, then I suppose Robin could be a big help. However I've never felt that Sasha lacked confidence or the belief that she was able to win comps. Was that really her problem at Nats and Worlds last year or the GPF this year? I think Sasha needs a good, technical coach who can iron out her jumping problems. Can we really say whether her so-called mental breakdowns on the ice are all-psych and not related to lack of confidence b/c of doubts about her technique? After all, we have no idea what goes on day to day in training.

A lot of mental toughness is almost ingrained. Sarah's said over and over that she'd always felt she was the best skater at her level and could win any comp. And obviously, she's applied the same driven-ness to other areas of her life, such as academics. Can Robin really give Sasha what's missing?

Another thought: Simsbury is quite a long drive from L.I. - look for Sasha to move if this becomes permanent, but something tells me this is a temp "stopgap" move. It will be interesting to see what happens after the season.

loveskating, I don't understand at all what you mean here. Do you like the lutz as a jump? Do you like Sasha's version of it? Do you like MQSeries's previous post?

MQseries... That is exactly what came to my mind! I'm like no the flutz was starting to get a little undercontrol and bang! Robin Wagner? I dont know she really seemed to have the mother daughter relationship going on with Sarah Hughes, but is that was Sasha needs? Maybe I'm judgemental on Robins coaching because of the way Sarah's technique turned out. I know that Sashas technique is far from perfect but as long as Sasha doesnt lose her roots that she has now...

As for TT being sick, maybe she is... I wish I knew exactly what it was. That way I could have a stronger opinion on all of this. So what about TT other students, are they changing coachs too> That will be the sure sign whether this is a true split.

On the other hand, if Robin decides to work out of Simsbury, it's a much more convenient trip from New Haven to Simsbury than New Haven to Hackensack or NYC.

In another thread, people were saying something about maybe Tarasova is pushing Sasha too hard...but in the article, it sure sounds like Sasha just wasn't listening to her when she advised that she not compete if she was sick. Hmm...
